Whoever they send to the Tour won't win. Whoever they send to the Giro/Vuelta could very likely win. That's the decision they have to make.

valverde can't win any gt.

2009 says hello.

And he's as strong now as he was then.

common sense isn't your friend. wether he is stronger now than 2009 is debatable but for sure the competition is stronger now.

And how strong has the competition been in the Giro the last two years?

Do you honestly think Ryder would've beaten Valverde in the Vuelta that same year as he won the Giro (if that had been his targeted GT)?

This year it was rather strong.
This year Nibali was rather strong.

IMO Nibali would be a bigger favourite than Valverde in next year's Giro if both targeted it, but Valverde (and Quintana) would be a bigger favourite than all of: Uran, Evans, Scarponi, Betancur, Niemiec, Majka (and Wiggins for that matter).

Valverde did not have much luck in the Vuelta 2012 or The Tour. I did not expect him to reach that level again after his comeback from suspension. I agree that Valverde will have a hard time winning a GT but I think it's the same for Rodriguez. He had two great chances in 2012 and could not finish either race off. I would be surprised if either of them won the Giro or the Vuelta but the Vuelta would be a better bet.

how is valverde going to beat purito unless he crashes badly or something?
Like he did in the '12 Vuelta (despite stage 4) and would've in the Tour last year without the mechanical...

...

On another note, I'll find the Valverde thread and move some of these posts over there. edit: Done.

That's a simple conclusion. Rodriguez got more than 4 minutes in the Alps. Of course, Piti didn't lose that amount of time if he was 3th in the standings, but Purito showed there that he was the better climber.

Oh god. Valverde has shaved his head.

Photo is too big to post -> linky

So: is he trying to emulate Cobo or Gadret? :D

In all fairness he has been going bald for a while and has done hair implants every off season for the past 2 or 3 years (good god how do i know this kind of stuff?. . . ) so he either gave up the fight or is renewing his hair for another implant sessions.

Honestly if i was him and was earning as much as he does, i would sure as hell be making those implants :p
