It's obviously bad that he crashed, I hope he is well (as much as he can be), but he will probably use this as an excuse if he doesn't win the Vuelta. It's not like he is the most trustworthy rider in the bunch.

This sucks. I was hoping for a Valverde-Contador showdown, against the odds I know. I happen to like both riders (though am a Pistolero fan), and if one doesn't go well, will pull for the other. The Spanish field is too thin at the moment not to pull for all of them to do well.

Dont think its just flesh. Valverde is experienced enough to know that!
Definitely something broken. I cannot see Valverde abandoning the Tour with just cuts and bruises, no matter how horrible they may be.

Having said that, so bloody sad. A rider of Valverde's calibre going out like that...
He should've known. His DS should have known, shouting in his ears to take it frikkin easy.
Just disappointed. Sad sad day!

Cut the crap!
After Valverde fans saying similar things about Contador last year (it being extremely weak of not winning Vuelta, that he didn't even have a chance to win the TDF without the crash etc.) I think Netserk's reaction is expected.
Valverde fans brought it upon themselves by their statements last year.
The obvious difference being that Valverde has already won three stage races, a monument and a classic this season. Fortunately for him, his whole doesn't hinge on just the GTs - like it did for Contador last year. He's more than a one trick pony.
The only trick Valverde had in this Tour was crashing
Again, probably a bit over the line. It doesn't look good when one genuinely seems happy when another rider crashes.
Froome's, Valverde's and Quintana's fans were almost celebrating Contador's crash last year.
Or almost celebrating a crash only becomes evil when Contador fans do it and not a problem when others do?
I don't approve of what Netserk weote but it is understandable given Valverde fans almost celebrating Contador's crash last year.

I've got no idea what you're talking about here. I can only speak for myself, but not once, ever, have I celebrated any rider crashing. Especially not a podium contender in a GT.

But, hey, if that kind of thing floats your boat, then go for it. It's basically the kind of think Tinkov would do - make of that what you will.

Did I say that I was happy? No. But last year, Valverde fans were writing similar things to what Netserk wrote today, and the irony of the same Valverde fans criticizing Netserk for what he wrote today is hilarious.

Seems to me that you might be better off following soap operas than pro cycling. The issue today is about a guy crashing and possibly breaking his leg - it's not really the kind of material that most sane people would find hilarious.

At no point did I celebrate Contador crashing. Thats ludicrous. I literally wrote this yesterday:

Yeah. Tired of "what ifs"...
I think everyone on this forum is tired of that. Next to Valverde winning, Contador staying upright and showing his cards is the thing I hope for the most. Obviously for the race, but also because of the endless speculation.

The race has lost a very talented rider today. A real shame for the race as he was the one Movistar rider I thought could light up the race.

As for some of the posts here, it really shows a lack of class from a few.. but not entirely surprising sadly.

What's with the insinuations? I see no celebrations in this thread. Only normal to speculate as to why he was so desperate and how well he ought to do in the Vuelta after this, and how he stacks up to Contador who also broke his leg in 2014.

Okay, maybe not all of you but I saw many posts about Contador like Netserk's about Valverde last year.

I found the Valverde fans whining about Netserk while Valverde fans did the same thing last year hilarious.

He was obviously desperate since he is feeling mightily inferior to Contador, can't keep the complexes from showing their ugly head in such a time trial against Contador. Its not like he has beat him this year in that exact discipline, so he really wanted this one. Yep.

You and I know thats completely ridiculous and I frankly don't know why you are bringing Contador into this and trying to stir things up. No idea. Valverde was eyeing a yellow jersey and a very good start to a race he potentially could have won if he was in yellow early. Froome took chances and didn't crash, Valverde took chances and crashed. *** happens. It happens to everyone.

Really, its a little annoying. Show a little compassion instead....

I don't think what you wrote is sensible given that Valverde crashed and broke his leg, but I can understand after Valv fans doing similar last year.

I never said Valverde was feeling inferior or etc. I just wrote that if Valverde fans had some empathy last year and wouldn't have written similar things, then they could have complained about what Netserk wrote.

Don't know what's more non-sense: whether netserk acting as a broken widow and being bitchy about Valverde, or Valv.Piti acknowledging that netserk was seeking a reaction and giving it, instead of simply ignoring, further feeding netserk's trolling.

Anyway, keep it going, it's fun to read.

A representative from the Movistar tspoke to NBC television briefly sfter the crash.

"He’s going the hospital right now. The most difficult thing is the (kneecap) seems to be broken, and then becaues of the crash against the wall, there is a deep cut in the leg," he said.

"There was a lot of blood, and they have to clean out the area before doing the x-ray to see if both bones are broken or not. It seems that the knee has a terrible injury."

Such a shame. Most likely his season has ended. I just hope that his career isn't over.
