Team Jayco was confident that O'Brien would do a good ride which was a surprise for me - Historically this is a bit slower than normal for the Aussie ITT. I suspect having the ITT after the RR affected the times.
Who decided Plappers was a good nickname? His "real" nickname seems to be Plappy.Plappers' chain just dropped, guess he's out of the race then.

Seems i'm not up to speed or haven't paid attention. How do their TT bikes compare?I am very interested in how Plapp goes in the ITT - Has not translated his junior and under 23 skills in his first year as a pro - He comes up against Durbridge who is always good in January and who is on better equipment.

Durbridge rode more or less the same time as last year, 46:47 vs 46:42. It's just that last year the winner Rohan Dennis was more than a minute ahead, now it's just 3 seconds for Jay Vine.Team Jayco was confident that O'Brien would do a good ride which was a surprise for me - Historically this is a bit slower than normal for the Aussie ITT. He was right behind Durbo on IT1 and was on the come up, so my guess is he would have won.How much time did Plapp lose with his mechanical? Would he have been up there?

The difference is that the road race is traditionally after the ITT - I think having the RR two days before the ITT added around 30 to 40 seconds to the times.
Really? I seriously doubt that.
Also Plapp doubted his TT chances in an interview before the RR. His RR focus meant he didn't do much TT training, and he also doesn't seem to have great recovery. With his mechanical, we won't know how much it affected him though.Well, Durbridge interviewed after the ITT suggested the times were affected by the RR being first - Even though today was a mild 21C,the 32C for the RR would have taken it out of the riders.
Thought i read somewhere that he was within one or two seconds of Durbridge before the incident. Could have been close if true. Also Plapp doubted his TT chances in an interview before the RR. I just want to remind everyone that the last time TDU happened, Australia was kinda on fire...
Yep, but that's certainly not the case any longer as I understand it.
What's up with antipodeans and descriptive names? We already have Corbin Strong the powerful rouleur/puncheur, Blake Quick the sprinter, and now, judging by the NZ Cycle Classic stage 2, we also have Kiaan Watts the sprinter. The young Christian Rush, who finished 9th in the same stage, will probably evolve into the second coming of Johnny Hoogerland.
And then there's Matthew Rice, who's just hungry.
Of course not. At worst it would be on fire again! I should probably have added "And that was the crazy thing happening back then." Before things got... quite crazy.
