I would love Matthews to win this. Partly because I like when the big names ride around in national colors, partly because he rides around with number 13 and hasn't turned it upside down.

Yeah, good question. Probably, Matthews can ride up the Buninyoung the fastest on the final lap but there's no reason to give someone a 34 second gap...
He may surprise me, but I kind of doubt he'll be able to rid of Plappers and O'Connor on Mt. Buninyong. Of course, no one is going to want to go to the line with him, this could open the opportunity for Ewan, who they've failed to drop despite his illness, to possibly return on the descent.

Oh, Matthews, will you never learn?

Well, at least that awesome jersey Ineos presented will actually be used in the peloton.

To be fair Matthews was marked out of it, he did everything right until Plapp went and looked blown by then. His team were a little underwhelming other than Harper.

Whelan looks worthy of another shot at the WT, big ride from him.

First time I've watched the Aussie championship live. Absolutely brilliant race to start the season off with.
It's often a good race and this one didn't disappoint. Cam Meyer's second win in 2021 was an absolute belter of a race, one of the very best races of the year.

Plapp is a very gifted rider and we will see the best of him in 2025 - I actually thought that L.Hamilton was the strongest rider, except he crashed at the top of Mt Bunninyong on the third last occasion and then spent a lap chasing back to the peleton. No crash and I suspect he would have blitzed the last climb of Mt Bunniyong.

I am very interested in how Plapp goes in the ITT - Has not translated his junior and under 23 skills in his first year as a pro - He comes up against Durbridge who is always good in January and who is on better equipment.

He didn't really get a proper shot at a time trial all year, though.

Had to ride on a road bike for the UAE one, the Romandie one was a mountain time trial at the end of the race and his recovery doesn't seem too good. He had a mechanical and a bike change in the Commonwealth games, in the Vuelta he was in survival mode and for the Worlds he was knackered after the Vuelta. I'd look more at his 2021 results for reference.
