I do wonder how you came to the conclusion that the race fans are obnoxious and unfriendly...as with any group a small portion might be. You seem to mean something more than this. Also I’ve never been to Australia, but from plenty of different cycling videos and vlogs, there’s seems to be a LOT of friendly fans down there.

He was already a domestique, Porte in the post race interview said that he worked for him today.
I think it's only tactical when they say that Gerrans is an option, they said the same before the NC but in the end they made him work already in the first part of the race.

I actually have no issue with your opinion on this race. Yes, it’s weak and most years all of the meaningful racing can be fit into a highlights package.

He's a far better climber than most sprinters, the surprise is that he hasn't shown it so far as a pro as he did in the youth ranks. Of course, being australian he'll be in much better form here than almost anyone else so that helps.

Personally the surprise is that he's become so good at flat sprints. When he turned pro I was expecting him to be a 2nd tier sprinter in flat finishes who wins almost every uphill sprint.

I personally quite like the Jancouver/TDU-Australia dialectic. I consider it part of the fabric of the race itself - kind of like a cyberspace Wilunga Hill.

So I'd appreciate it if people keep biting, and Jancouver keeps the gentle criticisms going.

Probably the main argument against Australia becoming a republic is the ever so faint possibility of Eddie becoming the first president. Think it couldn't happen? Look at the USA.

Yeah I kind of thought that after the U23 WC road race a few years ago. That was without any question a climbers circuit and he got 2nd. In the elite it was Costa over the J-Rod and Valverde - if sprinters even entered it was only to work in early laps.
