I was expecting Edmondson to win, it would have been a nice gesture by Ewan. Great sprint by Viviani.
Jancouver I agree that the Crit is pointless and pretty annoying. However injuries can happen in any race, or even training rides, so fans accept that, notwithstanding it happening to Porte or Sagan. Secondly we don't have a President, we have a Prime Minister (I haven't read the comments that inspired this line of discussion).

Seems like I missed the race today as it was shortened ... well, I guess I didn't miss that much
... and I must admit that I was wrong about Sagan today.
BTW today was another reminder why this race should be canceled as year after year the riders are forced to ride in 40C+ weather just to keep a few kangaroos (referring to those actual animals) by the road entertained.

Yeah I'm sure Matt White will be having a quiet word after dinner........but the way Viviani finished it still may have been close as once again the sprint started early and then it stopped at least for Ewan ! It seems one day is a long time in cycling, from dominating to being dominated !

Viviani can also thank Ewan, who admitted he botched the finale badly after his teammates set him up so well. Commentators speculated that Ewan saw a gap behind himself and lead-out man Alexander Edmondson and Ewan eased up to let his domestique take the win, but Ewan said it was just a simple mistake of starting his sprint too late.
"I'm pretty disappointed actually," Ewan said. "My team gave me an absolutely perfect lead-out, but I really stuffed it up the end. "It was a bit of a head wind and I didn't want to go too early. I waited a little bit too long, and Elia got the jump on me. He was too quick to bring him back.
"I think in hindsight with that finish you are better off coming from behind as I did last year. But like I said, I cannot fault my team. They were absolutely perfect. They did exactly what I asked them to do, and it was my stuff up in the end."
That said, I actually think Viviani would have won no matter what. He is just as fast as Ewan.. at least when it's a flat sprint.

I'm not going to go back and delete all the nonsense in this thread or even try to fully understand why voting maps of the US are appearing in a thread about Australian racing. I'm just going to warn everyone that this thread is for discussion of the racing currently underway in Australia. Please treat it as you would treat other threads about races that are usually sticky'd. If you want we can change the title and sticky it?

Not even sure Sagan can survive it if it is raced properly. Favorites must be McCarthy or Hass. Or Impey. He has showed that he can ride these climbs like in Catalonia against Valverde.
No. The nature of the climb is very different. It's not a uphill drag like Sterling, this is a real, long-ish climb.Jagartrott said:

Sagan will not be a factor. It looks like the team is all-in for McCarty.
In such a scenario, all of the puncheurs including McCarty and Hass (I think Impey is a better climber on non-steep hills than both) would be dropped.Jspear said:
