52.491 km, pretty good effort from Dennis. Faded a bit in the last 15 minutes but otherwise pacing was spot on.

Good coverage as well.

And enough gas left in the tank to hoist his sponsors product into the air afterwards. Rhis will be a happy man, but probably a bit lighter in his pocket.

Rihs will be veeery happy. one of his star riders has just beaten the Hour record in his new built velodrome, at home, in front of BMC factory.

Wiggins would have roughly 5% more drag in London (100-ft elevation) than in the Swiss velodrome (1400-ft elevation) for typical hour record pace.

I think his familiarity with the velodrome in London will offset the drag disadvantage. He will be on a home turf and I think his "technique" in London will be the ticket. Dennis was wobbling quite a bit and could not hold the best line. Perhaps, that was the main reason he lost a bit of distance in those last 15 minutes.

Wiggins seemed to be confused with geography in that link when talking about extreme heat. not sure he realised Bobridges attempt was in Melbourne

You are forgetting Dekker is going to high altitude on the 25th. There's a chart on the official hour record (under "Track Racing") that shows how altitude can add over 2 km's to an hour of riding.

His only chance is to ride at 60%, which is possible as I dont think that he is being tested as he is not affiliated with any team, therefore he can go full *** and Dekker should be (once again) a topic for the Clinic section.

Surely he'll be tested as he is trying to beat the "official record" no?

"any record attempt looks likely to be in the summer, when the heat will replicate the effects of altitude by reducing drag".

The drag at a temperature of 95?C is about the same as it is (for 20-25 ?C) at 1800m a.s.l., i.e. in (very) hot water, I mean Aguascalientes.

Since the 'reboot' of the hour record, you have to be in the bio passport programme to attempt it.

For Thomas Dekker, it's already a good publicity stunt. He's been on national tv 3 or 4 times already to talk about his attempt, he's had interviews in major newspapers, he's been on major radio shows. To compare: Tom Dumoulin, Dutch rider of the year, has never been on any of these shows, to my knowledge. Dekker is the media's darling, and he has a great management over at SEG Cycling, who've organized his entire comeback and come up with the idea of this hour record attempt.

The only problem is: the rider Thomas Dekker simply s.cks these days. No way he'll beat Rohan Dennis, even at altitude.

According to Brailsford Cookson, yes, although that's not the anti-doping requirement as stated in the UCI's world record rules.

Edit - I meant to say Cookson, not Brailsford.
