So will Wiggins do at least 55k? Boardman has said that to do 55 under current conditions is the equivalent of doing 56 on his superman bike..

Not bad for starters. He's got a time trial first.
I think he goes for 54 total.
he could go a half k faster in Switzerland.
But, he's a purist at heart.

Dennis did not pace badly. It wasn't optimal/perfect and yes he faded but he did actually set a new world mark and it's pretty hard to do that and pace badly.

Bobridge paced badly but he didn't set a record. The rider that set a world hour record with the worst pacing was Merckx.

“I’ve seen how he is doing 20-minute blocks at 55kph! I’m not going to ride 55 kilometers, so if that’s what Brad is able to do, I’ll be one of the first ones sat watching him because it’s going to be quite something.”

I don't think he is doing 20-minute blocks at 55 but I'm not seeing all his training data, so please share what you have.

He recently (last week) did 2 x 15km efforts on the track. First one was 16:20 duration (55.1km/h), the second one however under 54km/h and about 30W less.

Riding like that for 40+ minutes is a different matter entirely.

I agree, the power curve is extremely steep versus the the increased speed.

BTW how do you rate Dowsett's technique? I think he did phenomenal job and was very smooth and always riding right on the black line without any major drifts and I even think he only beat Dennis because of that element.

Very well done by Dowsett. See what Wiggo can do, if he beats Dowsett's time that one could stand for quite a while I think. Martin will probably have a shot as well eventually.

Wow, what a pacing, 100 rounds like a motorbike, and incredible reserves for the finish, could go over 53 easily but did not risk the faster start (same for Jensie who knew it would be a big shame if he faded in the end and missed the record). Btw, Eddy's fast start was due to the simultaneous 10k and 20k records.

Huh, the graphics on the broadcast were way off. According to them he was only ~52.8 km/h laps towards the end.

I've only seen highlights which provided video grabs through the event, each time his line looked very good but I'd need a better look.

This is one of the advantages of not going too hard to begin with - you can maintain form for both good lines and aero position much deeper into the ride. Once fatigue starts to build, both those can start to worsen compounding the drop in power.

Some tracks are better as well for maintaining good lines than others. It's a combination of overall track geometry and the shape of the track just under the black line.

He sounds pretty confident

Its not about the power but how aerodynamic wiggins can be and for how long. My guess is 54 and i donot think he will do 55. But if he does it then it will be great and his last swansong which he couldn't fulfill in PR

Not really got into this Hour Record stuff, although I did see Rominger do it live on Eurosport in 96.

Now how comes Dowsett is record holder and not Rominger ?. I seem to remember Romingers bike being pretty standard. Probably a slower bike ?, track ?. There is no proof he was using PEDS ?.

The thing that bugs me Is that the Uk media quote the the great riders who have held the record like Merckx and Moser but Rominger is not even mentioned. Now I'm not stupid, I know that it would be inconvenient. Its very misleading though.

This is meant to be a new era of Record attempts ?. Bit naughty to pick and choose the riders who's record you have surpassed from the past but forget to mention the ones you have not.

yeah i seem to remember in the old days that riders would attempt the record a few times even after they broke it. is it different now or is it "reported" differently without references to the attempts?

Historical UCI hour records. Keep in mind that there have been several categories over the ages (between ~1940 and ~1990 or so there were 6 different hour record categories), and it's only before 1940 and since the 2014 rule change that UCI has had a single hour record category.
