I have a custom Moots. I thought that was my ultimate bike. These days I am eyeing a custom Parlee Z1. I would never use anything other than Campy on my bikes so it would have to be Super Record.

I seriously looked at a Calfee bamboo bike simply because using it for centuries would be a great conversation starter. The lack of water bottle cage mounts was a big negative, and Calfee's reputation has been on a downward slope for a while.

I would bet that some of the small, steel builders that used to have hellacious waiting lists have had their estimated delivery time shrink due to the recession. That might be something to look into...

I also would not mind finding a Tommasini frame that was made in the early 90s. They had really interesting paint jobs, chrome lugs, chrome rear triangles. I always wanted to buy one of those.

Actually I have never found there to be a large difference between top end bikes. I think of them like bling. Cool to own, but I don't expect them to make me a better, faster rider.

The Parlee is excellent. I have to disagree regarding Calfee. He is a little nuts with the bamboo bikes, but his carbon tetra bikes with filament wound tubing, laminated lugs and ti fittings are still the best built and best engineered bikes available; made in America with custom geometry.

Today, .... Love to own a custom Z1 Parlee or a The time team frame. Light weight wheels or Lew and of course super record. I have a bike with super record so can't complain Just can justify the wheels that cost the same

My highly modified Cannondale X6 cross bike ... with a few more mods made to it.

What started as standard is now full Campy (only Veloce gears, so would move that up to Centaur Carbon and previous model Record derailleurs), with CR-720 brakes (would up to some Frogslegs - just cos they look cool ...) and a set of handbuilt wheels (Daytona hubs on Open Pro rims). I'd change the fork (have a Ritchey WCS carbon waiting to go on), the seat post (get full carbon) and replace my trusty alloy Record cranks with some carbon ones ... and build another set of wheels that were a bit lighter for road use.

Reason behind this? I love dirt and road riding and on the basis of having any "one bike" a crosser is the way to go! I have taken this thing pretty much anywhere I've taken the MTB (and in some cases have the scars to prove it) and it's the road weapon as well ...

If however we're allowed to add other bikes, then I'm still pretty much happy with my current (albeit small) fleet ... Roadie's a Record equipped Cannondale Six13 - would swap out a couple of bits and build another set of wheels, but otherwise all good. MTB is a highly customised Carbon Scalpel - and all I'd change on that is to drop the front disc from the 185 that I needed at one time to a 160.

Of course, then I'd have to add a hardtail (probably a new Flash) ... a fixie (have to be a retro machine made from junker bits ... definitely a steel frame - probably a TI-Raleigh 531 in fact!) ... and a winter beater ...

I've always drooled over Colnago and Pinarello frames but they simply don't fit me. My one meeting with the Serotta specialist in the UK is they really know their stuff. Loved the way they let me hold both a carbon and titanium tube and smack the tubes against a wall hard to feel the difference between carbon and ti.

If money were no issue, then the Serotta custom carbon frame would be a pretty sweet way to go. No doubt about that. A custom Parlee Z1 would also be a nice bike to own.
