Which DS said that? Leysen? Cause that guy is indeed a total ***.
For Gesink the harder the course the better. So they aren't wrong actually.

He still cannot win against this field ofcourse. But if he has the same form as the worlds he won't be far off either

No Purito in Lombardia :( :( :(

- Yesterday morning, before leaving for Italy, I was doing a last training behind a motorbike. Just when I dropped from the motorbike, I did not notice a traffic sign post and hit it with my right knee. I did not crash but immediately I felt a lot of pain. Fortunately I was not far away from home and I managed to arrive home by bike. In the evening, after my arrival in Italy, the pain was getting worse. My knee was swollen. It was even getting hard for me to walk. It is just impossible to race now. This is a real bummer. I was really motivated for this race, – said Joaquim Rodriguez.

The descent of Sormano is key in this parcous, so Nibali has important chances, but the level will be high and there are a lot of strong contenders.

problem of Sormano is that with Civiglio there Nibali definitelly will not attack on sormano because of flat after descent, best that Astana should do is to put very high pace over there and push it even from descent to significantly reduce group and make race even harder

I didnt remerber Landa was 21th two years ago in Lombardia, in a group with Gilbert, Van Avermaet and Tom Dumoulin, best Euskaltel rider.

Now he is a better rider and this year is a better race for climbers. he has said Lombardia is his favourite race.

Dumoulin as well is a better rider and he could do it very well.

Aru as well was last year in the group who sprinted for victory in Bergamo, so he showed he is strong for this race. Astana ahs a very strong team and lot of cards to play.

Samu was as well in that group, he was actually 5th helping Gilbert, he has lot of experience and good results in this race, this year he was strong some times, and if is raining, he has an important role to play in the descent of Sormano. He can climb better than Gilbert as well Ghisallo-Sormano is he is now in good shape. I dont know becouse he didnt race since la Vuelta, but this year he was 12th in Tour de France, 13th in basque country and 2nd in Yorkshire.

Aru rides in Almaty this weekend unfortunately.

Damn Astana!

Sorry to hear that, bad luck. Now there's only Valverde left to challenge Nibali.

Really sad for him. Hard to say if he would have been very good because I don't know how his shape was but no question that he was one of the big favorites

There are plenty of riders in form, arguably with better legs than Valverde. I seriously don't get this talk of Nibali being the supreme favourite. Bet he won't even podium.

what you would like to bet? of course valverde is not only one with enough good legs but for many riders not be so easy hang up behind Nibali wheel
I am also pitty that Purito will not be there I would like to see him fighting

you know that Aru with Nibali together on same race do not work so well, also last year Nibali was not there as tour winner
for me is pitty they are in same team, they should fight againist each other on some GT and even on some hard one day races like Lombardia

Is there any rider in the race that can climb better than Nibali because this sure is a climbers Lombardia? He dominated all the Italian one-day races he participated last weeks while winning two, that means he is in shape. He arguably has the best team to support. It will be rain. How on earth is he not the favorite?

Valverde doesn't quite like 10 degrees Celsius temps. in the rain but I hope he'll be up there in the finale.

A quick sneak at the odds also suggest that Valverde is the only real challenger for Nibali.

Odds are wrong more often than right.

I say Nibali won't top 5.

If odds are wrong more often that right, just go ahead and make those money.

Seriously, odds are the most accurate tool to determine x and y rider chances of winning. It's just how it works. If not, the odds setter would be out of job.

Agreed but Nibali's classics palmeras doesn't live up to his reputation, there are several riders in this race with a better track record than Nibbles.

There are still: Gilbert, Wellens, Faria da Costa, Vuillermoz, Bardet, Landa, Ulissi, Gallopin, Slagter, Albasini, Visconti, Rosa, the Yates Bros, Moreno, Zakarin, Majka, Poels, Henao, Mollema, Colbrelli, Cunego, Gesink and Rebellin.

Most of this names ain't no weaker favorites than Nibali is. Some are outsiders, yes. But it looks like a wide open race, unless Valverde or one of the Astana guys (Nibali, Landa, Rosa) arrives in superb shape!

Yes they are. As far as favorites the difference between those guys and Valverde and Nibali in this race with this parcours is huge. Of course the actual race might prove this to be wrong and you forgot Pinot.

Explain to me why a rider who has one top 10 in this race is a bigger favourite than any of them?
