I'm rooting for Valverde to lockup velo d'or here

That would be great, although he's close even without this one...
Hasn't he locked it up already?
He has.

I meant it as a half joke that he would have to make sure Aru doesn't win.

Because if Aru won then for me Giro podium + Vuelta overall + a monument > a monument + FW + Tour podium.

But I've just seen Aru isn't riding.

So Valverde it is.

I've also thought Aru will ride, but the Kazakh investors...
I guess we should get used to Astana's GT aces' absence from the fifth monument.
An elite Italian team is an imperative, seems to me.

Kristoff?

Edit: but probably Froome will win, Tour winner is always massively overrated for that award. Last year, Nibali was 2nd, just a couple points behind Contador, while he'd done nothing besides winning the Tour.

Degenkolb also deserves a mention, winning 2 Monuments in one year is a big deal.

Nibali won it by about 46 minutes and 12 stages more than Froome did, and he won the Eyetalian RR. In the end, Contador just won Vuelta +PV+TA

In what universe does winning the Tour and national road race come even close to 1st in Vuelta, PV , TA (2 of the 5 main 1-week races) and 2nd in Algarve, Catalunya and Dauphiné?
"The award is given annually to the rider considered to have performed the best over the year." It's not an award for best performance of the year.

Uuh, Eurosport broadcasting for 135 minutes. That surely means Muro and even Ghisallo, right? :D

Pumped for today. Hoping for Valverde, but thinking one of the Astana-guys will win it. I actually wouldnt mind either Rosa (I somehow like him very much), Nibali or Landa. Hoping for a good showing from Chaves. I think Rui Costa will be the big outsider to look out for - a Costa, Valv and Nibz finale alá 2013 should be a good one!

It might not be clear, but in my head it was more of a comparison between Nibali last year and Froome this year, and I was downplaying Contador's results more as a comparison to what Valverde did this year. In no way do I think Nibali should've won Velo d'Or last year, I was the one who started the official bitching thread about that.

So in short, what I mean is Valverde's 2015>Froome's 2015.

In a far away universe there is a planet called zaman...in that universe is the answer. Anyways Nibali will not win this maybe another Zaugg like rider to win.
