I think Remco will have to ride smarter than usual to win this. If he can’t ride Colbrelli off his wheel, he won’t be able to do that to Roglic, Pogacar, Yates, Gaudu, Vingo etc either.

Where he has an advantage is none of those guys will want to tow Alaf or Almeida to Bergamo. If the selection is small enough, and he makes his move solo, he can maybe stay away.
Question is when, because the later he leaves it the more riders will make it their primary tactic to stick to Evenepoels wheel here.

I have obviously missed the introduction of some in-joke recently. Who is Steve Urkel?

well he has actually already ridden pog, Yates and vingo off his wheel. Gaudu (and I am a fan), puhleeeze.

true, if pog finds his Tdf form again, he will be in the mix for the win.

main thing is Rog.

and I agree with u, having team numbers is the only way to beat Rog.

Rog needs to be isolated while remco still has at least one teammate.

however, I see a scenario where remco’s attack isolates him WITH Rog. At that point, he may want to check in with Bernal and how that worked out in the Vuelta.

Sorry: I am none the wiser as to who this is or why he would be a reference to any rider.

It's Steve Urkel, a character from the 90s sitcom Family Matters. He had the well known catchphrase "Did I do that".
I'm not sure, but I think because of his glasses he might resemble David Gaudu a little bit. I'll have to see a picture of Gaudu wearing suspenders to fully buy it, though.

Not well enough known to have made any impact on my awareness.

And reading your last sentence with the UK English understanding of 'suspenders' leaves me with a mental image I would be very keen to erase.

But thanks for the explanation.

@Samu Cuenca Actually It's Storer, he doesn't look like Urkel, but he has a quite sharp, irritating voice for my sensitive ears! Also mildly irritating during the vuelta being everywhere. I can't find any good clips though and the ones I find he does not sound half as annoying as he did during the vuelta. He's not half as high pitched as Urkel! I was really annoyed with him all the vuelta and never counted him out after that. :smilingimp:

I'd take UAE over Jumbo.
I can't see anybody but Roglic being there in the final if the hard racing starts early.

DQS sports director Lodewyck said they might try something new as everyone will be expecting Remco to attack early. He's curious to see what happens when he doesn't attack from far. He thinks the others won't really know what to do and who will take initiative. This might make it unpredictable and chaotic which should be benificial for DQS as they have multiple strong options.

If that is the case then the others will have one less quickstepper to look out for. Remco will attack at some point as its the only way he can win, if he doesn't attack then Remco is out out of the equation. If anybody thinks Remco will not attack must be smoking something really bad, its only a case of when he attacks, not if. I think he will get a podium (if he finishes), not sure he will win considering the competition.

What a great plan :tearsofjoy:
It is the best way to isolate Almeida, when Roglic, Pogacar or Yates drops the hammer on Ganda...

Thanks for reminding me, that they are called braces in British English.

Ok, there was no way I was ever going to figure that out then :D

IMO Vingegaard looked pretty good Emilia. And Kruijswijk looked decent as well but he was chasing behind the group for a long time. And it's also a matter of what size of group are we talking about.

I both UAE and Jumbo will likely look to launch Roglic/Pogi on Ganda and after that the groups should be very small.

I'm a fan of Remco. I like attacks. I find sprints meh. I find both the Remco over-hype and the snide remarks amusing. But do ppl really think that the kid is going to attack from over 70 km out and stay away (in Lombardia)?
Also, that would make the race hard and I don't think that's the best strategy for Alaphillipe.
