There was about 10 minutes of excitement, when the race seemed to be taking off at the top of Dossena, but it was shortlived.

Yeah, but that is not a factor you can just ignore. So this is still surprising.

Unfortunately the rythm was low in the previous climbs, i think that is the main reason for this situation.

The hardest climb comes last. This is not a great incentive for dynamic racing.

It's a bit of both, really. If Deceuninck had wanted an aggressive race instead of shutting everything down, we probably would have an aggressive race. With Jumbo and UAE doing similar stuff, it's the worst case scenario.

Higuita, now there's a name i haven't heard in a long time. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon, for a more civilized age.

I think it required a bigger investment than what a single team could provide on this route to break the deadlock. Ganda is a huge bottleneck here.
