This is the kind of attitude that I hate from GT GC contenders and that the UCI's points system sadly somewhat rewards.Enric Mas at Lombardia
I typed in TP's thread that I hope the others step it up for next season. When it was Anna van der Breggen or Annemiek van Vleuten doing it, it was evidence that there was not sufficient depth or professionalism in the péloton, just saying...
Both is good!HAHAHA Era?
or
YAWN Era?
That was Roma Maxima (the old Giro del Lazio), against Valverde, right? This is the kind of attitude that I hate from GT GC contenders and that the UCI's points system sadly somewhat rewards.
It takes a special talent for conservatism to apply that kind of technique to one-day racing though.
Maybe he was putting in a tribute to Domenico Pozzovivo though, since he had the epic "finish 7th in a two-up sprint".
What a post and great assessment. Very well-written.Congrats to Pogacar on the most dominant classic win I've seen. He utilized his top-notch colleagues to chase down a very strong breakaway and attacked where everybody expected. His gap on the top (1'10'') wasn't really shocking but what happened later...he basically crushed all the chasers (Remco included) on the flattish/rolling 20-km section after the descent building a huge gap. Obviously the whole day (and UAE's hard tempo) took its toll on his rivals and he had by far the most in his tank. Also congrats to Remco on a brave chase (before he ran out of energy) and 2nd place. World champion ahead of the olympic champion is a fitting end of this season.
The season is basically over and for Pogacar it's the season for ages. Probably the best in cycling history: Giro-Tour double, WC gold, two monuments and other races (25 wins in total). All won in an absolutely dominant fashion. We haven't seen anything like that since legendary Eddy Merckx and didn't think it was still possible nowadays. It will be hard to repeat (even for Pogacar) and it will be recalled by the current generation for decades. 4th Consecutive Lombardia ties him with Coppi (in terms of consecutive wins here and actually in all the monuments). He's chasing only ancient legends, the rest are left behind.

But yeah, today was a masterclass wheelsucking performance by him, I have to admit that.
No, probably not full results until later tonight.Any one hear how Pozzovivo finished?
Tell me it's an Italian race without saying it's an Italian race...No, probably not full results until later tonight.
38th.Any one hear how Pozzovivo finished?
Shortly afterwards, but yes.Kinda of a side question but didn't Pog attack on the bridge where Remco crashed in 2020?
Im shocked but they just posted the full results.Tell me it's an Italian race without saying it's an Italian race...
He was 7th in Frankfurt '13. (as I recall it from a 3-man sprint)Yeah, but after repeating the joke like 10 times during the week I decided the check the actual results and Pozzovivo was actually 5th.
It seems like I've been living a lie all these years.
Cycling disappointed me once again.
Riders finishing in small groups makes their job way easierIm shocked but they just posted the full results.
It’s better to be pissed off than to be pissed on.And there we have it for those waiting for it: Remco mad at the moto. Fill in your bingo cards accordingly.
It seems like Pogacar still has quite a bit to catch on then.He was 7th in Frankfurt '13. (as I recall it from a 3-man sprint)
EDIT:
