this may be the most over hyped thread i've ever read. there is undoubtedly potential, but nobody he has beat was at their peak, and he claims he was.
I dont think so,Little Richie thread is the one.

Ok now I like this guy, couple of landed euros @5/1 :D

I clearly bet on the wrong sites
I always bet in the evening before the stage :) (if there is clear forecast)

On the site where I bet, there wasn't even a possibility to bet on Romandie, that's what I meant :p

A win is a win is a win and in form or not all the others were there. As to make it the 'second coming " that is another story and why we keep the "future" to tell us

lol

Zakarin might have even lower body fat than Richie's lowest of all time of any Sky rider.

Peak or not, it's impressive if you beat Froome, Quintana and Nibali in a stage race
Actually, the whole TDF podium was here with Pinot and Peraud. And numerous top 5 finishers in the past like JvdB and Gesink.

If people don't like the winner they come with all type of justifications, some of them more hilarious then realistic. It happened with Wiggins,Froome,Nibali,i saw them using it even for Quintana, using fantasy over the reality.I think Zakarin win is really impressive on this field and can't be diminished so easily.

Grande Ilnur is the new Froome. Long arms, über skinny, great climber and TTer.

Not sure if Froome qualifies as having a good TT any more if he wasn't able to do anything today.

Froome seems to really care now a days only if Contador is in the race. Otherwise he appears to be content to treat these events as simply training rides for the Tour.

I dont't think so. He was in Romandie for the win. The fact that he wasn't capable of winning is probably down to the fact that he is not in good enough shape due to various factors. He smashed the last two editions also training for the Tour. Regarding Contador, they both were in Catalunya but I don't seem to remember anything about Froome in that race.

You don't remember Froome dropping everytime the road started rising towards the Sky?

I do, though faintly. It was quite remarkable that he was so poor, but then again, he clearly wasn't in form, coming back from the illness that prevented him from participating in TA. Going back even further than that, my memory is even shakier. Anyone remember what happened at the Ruta del Sol?

Ekimov is less willing to discuss his rider when asked if Zakarin has protected rider status for the GIro. “I wouldn’t show our cards, but definitely we won’t waste him. He is there, he is following the guys [other top contenders], we are waiting for the mountain stages and then we will see how he gets through.”

I would be a nice surprise if Ilnur turns out to be undroppable in the mountains.

I'm still expecting some great things from him on the proper mountain stages.A stage win will make his learning process easier.

no surprise though. his first grand tour. a lot to learn
Learn what really? The first week of a GT is like a 1 week race. The learning comes later in the 2nd and 3rd weeks. He's dropped like a stone in the first week itself that too on a hill after winning a hilly/ mountainous race like Romandie!!!!!

he said he'd peak for Romandie and not the Giro after Pais Vasco already, so it's not a major surprise I think.

not necessarily, but it's probably not as good as in Romandie anymore, sometimes it may be smarter to save a bit of energy then. Yesterday he said something like "everything's fine, you can't be in front every day, I'll try something in the coming days"

NO.

Althoug more to learn in the last week.

Beñat has beated Contador some times and now where is in this Giro?
Anton just won Asturias, and the same...

Either way, the former pro is adamant that Zakarin is “under no pressure in this race from the team. If he puts pressure on himself, that’s his choice. But he needs to learn, get through these things, if the legs are there, he’s going to show up. If he’s got the capability to finish in the top ten, then for sure we are going to support him.”
