Giro podium? Maybe even a challenge for Contador?

Nope.

Unfortunately doesn't have the recovery.

Best case scenario is to be Porte like dominant in the one week stage races.

How do you know that he doesn't have the recovery? Just curious.

zakarin is 1,87 x 62 kg.
very difficult to think he can recover on a 3 week GT , even more difficult to think he can run au bloc pais vasco, romandie and then continue with the giro.

Belgian commentator said he's 67kg. Seems a bit more accurate than 62 imo.

Edit: although on second thoughts, maybe not.

Worked for Sky, Rasmussen, Schlecks and many more...

Zakarin will win several gts if he keeps this improvement up, but not this year. To busy having to prove himself in the 1 week races to his bosses to be able to fully peak for a gt this year. Next year though, he will fight up there for sure :) :)

he definitely shouldn't lose any more weight. he said he's at 65 kilos now. it's enough
he goes in il giro for experience, i don't think he will top 20 overall.

He's just a new Karpets.
Nothing wrong with that, the guy was great in 1 week races and was able to finish a GT in the top 10 three times, many riders would love to archive the same results.

while i don't expect him to shine in il giro, he is no doubt makarov's move in the game of chess in the arms race. the guy can fight froomey, he's no scared or shiit. this is soviet russia making a crazy variant of ivan drago to fight the west. next year, he can go for a grand tour no doubt, he can humiliate the likes of quintana or froome

it's completely normal if cookson have froomey, why makarov can't have zakarin?!
it's a fair game.
explorer vs sputnik, this will be good for the sport. expect bat shiit insane battles uphill

Considering the current hype, it would be an uderachievement.

can't believe people compare zakarin to karpets. zakarin looks like he's straight from a deathcamp, while karpets was a true bear that could only hold on for dear life in the mountains being 20 kg heavier than this guy

this may be the most over hyped thread i've ever read. there is undoubtedly potential, but nobody he has beat was at their peak, and he claims he was.

Peak or not, it's impressive if you beat Froome, Quintana and Nibali in a stage race
Actually, the whole TDF podium was here with Pinot and Peraud. And numerous top 5 finishers in the past like JvdB and Gesink.
