you really don't get what i'm saying, like the youngest pointed out, I'm merely explaining that many guys, like gesink merely priortise the tour, and it would be ignorant to ignore why.

No, sorry, you specifically said that "this year", Nibali had a 1st and a 3rd - therefore, it *is* actually a 2-sided quesiton like I said. Either the question is "who is the best GT rider" in which case thie years results are *irrelevant* and you shouldn't have put them there as part of the question, or the question is asking if you look at this years results, who is the best *this year* - in which case he is (especially as Contador may even be eliminated from the TDF, and therefore we should eliminate him from the consideration)

I understand that you meant the first, I was merely pointing out that, by including this years results, the question could be read 2 ways, 1 way of which Nibali is clearly the best.
And maybe, instead of understanding that after LA the TDF is idolised, maybe you should be critical of those riders that do this, as this feeds the same attitude in the public?

What you guys don't seem to get is that I'm not talking from my own perspective, I'm just explaining why I think Gesink wants to ride the Tour first and foremost. I like the Giro as much as the next guy, idem for the Vuelta, but during this year's Tour Gesink said that he'd never seen such a high level of racing, and being the ambitious guy he is, he'll want to prove he can be among the best at that high level.

Where Nibali comes into the equation, no idea. You must have me confused with Dekker T.

I would also guess that he wants to win a white jersey at the tour and this will be his last year to do so.

No. Andy Schleck is from '85: therefore no longer eligible. Only people born on or after the 1st of January, 1986 will be eligible for the white jersey next year.

If a rider is 25 years old or less on January 1st, he shall be eligible for the white jersey at the Tour that year.... Which means Schleck would still be eligible, since he's 25 now and doesn't turn 26 until next June.

Hmm according to Wikipedia what you say is correct, but I could have sworn that multiple news sources, including CN and the horrible US tour commentators both said it was his last year to win the white jersey...

Looks like you'll be spared since there will be no prologue this year... just a road stage. 😀

I got into cycling in 1993 when my dad took me to a 3rd cat. col in the Tour and watch. I'm certain I have told that stories at least 3 times before. Your memory is failing. Better check for alzheimer 😉

Im just surprised to see young cycling fans on this forum. I thought everyone was 40+. (I am in the former too).

ps. Dekker, how did you learn to speak English so well. Moondance said he learnt it English school in Switzerland ( i think, dont terrorise me if i got this wrong 😉) and im assuming not every dutchie learns it this way.

No idea. But he did name himself after the great Abdel-Kader Zaaf, so you'd assume he's done some reading on the subject (the history of the Tour, that is).

Well, normally in the Netherlands you learn English at primary school already (starting from 6th grade, 9/10 year olds). So most Dutch people should know decent English.
But that's not really the way I learned. Long story short: I have family living in America, so I picked it up from there.
