BMC's lead carer didn't get the Sky memo:rolleyes:

Chris De Vos ‏@Chrissoigneur 5 Dec
“The key is not the will to win. Everybody has that. It is the will to prepare to win that is important...............”

Sky 'speak' spreading like a virus......

Kimmage gets criticised for his work with Garmin in 2008...by Richard Moore for example...and it baffles me. Have people actually read these pieces? He grilled people. And I mean grilled them. Outside of waterboarding what was he meant to do? He started off his interview with Millar by saying I don't think you should even be in the sport. He told JV at the start I think you are full of sh**....
He kept coming at JV, time and time again, asking him to just admit that he doped on record.
Allen Lim, he actually said to him, I felt in 2006 that you were the guy helping Landis dope.
Again, can someone please fill in where Kimmage went wrong here? Seen as we are comparing his work to Walsh and whether he'd have done a better job.
Do I think Kimmage would have unearthed proof that Sky dope? No, if course not. But by God he'd have done a thorough and professional job in questioning, in pointing out inconsistencies and letting them know that what they are saying makes no logical sense. Something Walsh has failed miserably to do. Time and time again I read his pieces this year screaming at the page and his lack of background knowledge which would have afforded him the chance to ask a secondary question. Instead, because he didn't have his homework done, he accepted without question the utter rubbish he was fed.
Say what you want about Kimmage, there aren't many journos who prepare as much beforehand as he does.

Tim says ‘we like to think that we know what power output we have to produce to win the race’.

Thanks for linking that, hog. What I find particularly interesting about this set of quotes is the one above.

If we assume other teams are doping, and I think everyone would agree that we must assume that, it is very, very interesting that Sky think they know what other people are capable of. I don't understand enough to know how they would know that and can only guess.

My only guess at this point is that they know what can be gotten away with in terms of doping in the current testing regime, and they know the limits of their top competitors with this in place. At least close enough to guess and have confidence they'll be competitive. This would suggest a very detailed understanding of doping techniques, whether they are employing them or not. It would be hard to imagine them understanding things at this level and simply deciding not to dope, and it would be impossible to imagine they could be confidently beating dopers while fully understanding what other riders are capable of. Of course that's the issue with Sky's dominance in the first place.

The other option is to assume they have a pretty good idea of what's possible from past performance of dopers, and are basing guesses off of that. This of course calls into the discussion all the denials of being able to understand wattage without having power data. If guessing is close enough to base detailed power decisions, why is it not good enough to spot clear dopers by observers of the sport?

The other possibility is that this commentary is laced with some BS and they feel like they have the power they need to win, whatever the other riders are doing. This would be damning.

Watching them race, to be honest it looks more like #3 than the first two. Anyway, wondering what others make of that quote.

Very good observation and post D.

Agreed.

Also when a Brailsford made the remark just prior to the tour that clean riders will surpass the time of dopers. Kimmidge would have taken that statement and said "show me why", "show me how that is possible". He would have challenged it until he got a reasonable anwser.

Walsh took on face value and said "sure that sounds right, thanks for the update".

Baffling.

Where have I heard "the little details" before...

“Like many other sports, cycling has evolved to a very high level, which makes it difficult to make a difference,” Alonso admitted. “All the riders are very professional. All the recuperation techniques, bike materials, wind tunnel testing… It’s all very developed. We have to concentrate more on the little details, so we’ll need to have the best technologies out there.”

His soft questioning would have been baffling if he had signed a one off book deal with Sky. But, as we know he is also writing Froomes autobiography. Inside team Sky only really appeals to cycling fans whereas autobiographies have a much broader catchment. Walsh will make a lot more cash from the Froome book than the sky book. Something along the lines of...'u can write Froomes book for us but you gotta write a pile of PR ****e first, k...'

sounds plausible

A bit of F1 intuition wouldn't go astray.

- Illegal procedures which can't be detected
- Push legal boundaries to the extreme
- Spy on others to make sure they aren't getting ahead, or take their key staff.

I honestly think Alonso believes F1 is doing very well. Hugely exciting sport. Lots of technology and safety. Global.

But what did walsh fall in love with?
Brailsford is a widely acknowledged ***, Froome looks like an average uninteresting dork, Wiggins is a ****, etc...
Sky must have properly pampered our david.

Here's the FDJ thingy. They had pressure sensors in the gloves, on the body and all over the bike including the wheels.

They actually strapped up the whole team.

Probably make a great video game if they tried. As long as you were allowed to knock out fans and other competitors :)

Daniel Morgan ‏@Danny170 23h
@DavidWalshST pretty disappointed about Inside Team Sky. It's way over the top David. No objectivity at all. Why?

David Walsh ‏@DavidWalshST 23h
@Danny170 Danny, you're entitled to your view but in my view you are wrong.

Daniel Morgan ‏@Danny170 23h
@DavidWalshST I'm just such a big fan but it feels like you sold out. Not the David Walsh I regard so highly

David Walsh ‏@DavidWalshST 23h
@Danny170 Sold out to whom. Do you ever think before you insult?

Did Walsh think before he insulted when he said all Sky doubters were Armstrong fans.

More people I think should tweet Walsh.

Not insults though because hell never respond and just dismiss it, but things that come up in the clinic which show Walsh is not being consistent he should be confronted with it.

Ive written responses many a time but ended up not going forward cos i know the second i press send ill be blocked, so want to wait for the right moment.
