You're right about Pogacar, that's why I compared him to Bernal and Cunego.
It's possible that Del Toro will be the third, fourth or second best GT rider next year, but what I'm saying is that you can't conclude that from this Giro because the level is so low.

Just to say that it seems to me that Hindley's level in the mountains in 2022 was higher than this year's, and that wasn't an indication that Hindley would be at a certain level, but rather was an indication of the level of the Giro. And I think Carapaz 2022 was superior, so Hindley's level in mountain was more significant.

I find it very significant that Derek Gee is very close here in all the mountain stages, and in the Tour
he wasn't even close to Landa.
Obviously, Gee could be at a much higher level in this Giro.

But in this Giro, there are a lot of coincidences:
Carapaz's best GT since 2022.
Simon Yates with a chance of winning a GT on stage 20 since 2018.
Gee close to the podium.
Caruso, who was terrible last year, this year top5 and better than ever.

Carapaz may be better this year, but when four riders, three of them veterans, are better than ever, it's more a matter of the level of the race. They haven't all suddenly improved when they were showing signs of decline.

In short, for me, Del Toro has shown incredible class, but I have the same feeling as when Bernal won Tour. I still don't know if he'll be a rider who wins multiple GTs or if this is simply too much a function of the context.
Even if he wins the Giro, I don't know if he'll be a multiple GT winner.I get the same vibe as whit Bernal.

Outside of GT, Del Toro is going to win a lot, that's for sure.

Only those that do the Giro and Tour to win both can talk about the low level of the Giro. This is why winning both in the same season has been so rare.

I just don't understand how basically the same 20 man gets a 20-30 W difference on climbs of similar duration a few days apart. And no I don't believe in fatigue because seriously nobody can explain to me why PdB was higher W/kg for 50% longer a day later.

Del Toro is too young and inexperienced; not everyone is Pogacar. I can't entirely blame him for not making good decisions.

They should´ve guided him better from the car.
By the way, all of UAE's domestiques failed today.

He gave everything. Felt that he couldn’t get closer and ended up 2nd. Not a bad first GT as a “leader”. Expected him to drop harder and was still with Carapaz as 2nd best. Yates was just a level above today, nothing to be ashamed of.

He lead on Finestre for some time but to no effect. Yates was way too strong uphill today and had Wout by his side. 2nd was really the best Del Toro could get.
