Hallo liebe Radsport-Fans,

Sprinter kennen keine Freunde

Euer

Jan Ullrich

i was waiting for this. Don't think Jan wants to go through all the crap, but damn wouldn't it be sweet to see him back in the pro ranks.

Or maybe just staying fit and having fun riding bikes.

My quick Translation of Jan Ullrich's Eurosport Blog

Dear cycling fans,

Mark Cavendish enjoys his appearances in the rainbow jersey

Mark Cavendish has yet again caused furor with two victories in the first week of the Giro. The world champion has matured in the last few years. Cavendish is the most sprint explosive rider i have ever seen.

I particularly noticed that Cavendish now does a lot better in hilly pacours then he did in the past. I can remember times were he got regularly droped on the first climb. In his victory on the 5th Giro stage Tyler Farrar, Thor Hushovd and Andrea Guardini were already dropped. Cavendish easily won the sprint against Matthew Goss.

Sprinters are of a special kind of breed. Once "Cav" and the others see the flamme rouge on the last kilometer, they forget everything around them. They are heading to the finish with speeds of over 60km/h, producing more than 1500 watts on the final meters. Whoever is afraid has already lost.

Just like Erik Zabel, Cavendish has the right feeling and vision when he has to start his final sprint. "Ete" was also a very fast man who had many victories. Zabel was at his best on tough stages. When he was still in the pack at the end of a stage, he was always battling for the victory.

Zabel dominated many races and had a very clever way of riding. With guys like Mario Cipollini, Tom Steels, Alessandro Petachi and Tom Boonen, Zabel faced strong opponets during his entire career. All in all, in direct comparison to Cavendish, Zabel was the more complete rider.

Sprinters don't know any friends.

For me sprinting wasn't the right thing to do. I was always happy if i didn't have to sprint in the finale. After all, in a buch sprint, things are very hectic. Sprinters have a whole different kind of mentality in the bunch sprint. That's why crashes happen in bunch sprints, from time to time. Those guys have the feeling for the best rear wheel and they know how to push, too. If a sprinter smells victory, he doesn't know any firends.

Especially during the Tour the France i took pleasure in riding in the sprint train, in order to avoid dangerous crashes in the pack. Usually we started our train 10km from the finish line, in order to control the peleton. I was riding until the 2km mark before the finish line. On the last 1000m fast guys like Rolf Aldag were leading the train.

In an ideal situation, the sprinter has two team members in front of him on the final km. The first one rides till the 500m mark, while the second one rides till the 200m. From there on the sprinters go full throttle.

Thats it from me for this week,

your Jan Ullrich

Now six years after THE day before the Tour, in 2006...

Day before Tour 2006, June 30th 2006, 9.34 CET, Frommert announces the suspension of Ulle, Sevila and Pevenage...

In sad memory of an epic battle that the world wasn´t allowed to see... A Tour like the one of 2012, tailormade for the strong time trialists, just perfect for Jan.

Most interesting statements:

- He thinks prologe will be decided between Cancellara and Tony
- He says Tony should ride on his on bill and not think about the Olympics during the Tour. He thinks Tony might have a chance at the podium although he doesn't think it will happen but predicts a great Tour by Tony nevertheless. In any case,Tony should ride the Tour full trottle, Ullrich says. There is enough time to recover till the olympic TT.
- He thinks Greipl and Kittel will take some stages
- He says there might be trouble for Sky with both Wiggins and Cavendish on the team
He says Wiggins won't have a chance to win the Tour and predicts him to blow up sooner or later.
- He feels Klöden will be in top shape and is the dark horse for the overall win.
- He says Hejsedal will be good but has no shot for the podium
-

Thanks Bavarian.

I agree with everything he says but the part with Martin having a shot to podium and that I think Greipel will win a stage and Kittel won't.

Oh yes please. There isn't anyone I'd rather see win! (Though Rolland is close...)

Jan Ullrich updated Tour de France palmares:

Overall standings:

4 x 1st place
2 x 2nd place
1 x 3rd place

48 yellow jerseys

11 stage wins

ASO would look pretty silly if they tried to update the results after the likely upcoming decision. Don't count on that.

Looking forward to see Ullrich receiving his jersey. He deserves it, hope he still fits into it :D
