Brändle breaks Voigt's hour record

so will shut up legs come back to break Brändle's hour record?

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/brandle-breaks-voigts-hour-record

I can see quite a few guys taking this down. Phinney and Cancellara will be eyeing it off. Wiggins should be able to get out about 54 if he really wants to set a time. Phinney has potential. But Cancellara would have to master track souplesse, I can see Wiggins and Cancellara being even with Wiggins having the track history and souplesse.

Maybe Phinney could put a standard wayyyy out there that wont be contested for a time, if he was to do it in a few years after concentrating on chronos like Spartacus did.

Funny.

Will there be serious attempts?

Or, has Voigt's extreme opportunism thoroughly undermined any prestige left?

Speaking of which, Jens' entire career was opportunism underscored.

To think that someone who couldn't let a single opportunity pass him by would somehow not only avoid dope, but be completely naive about his closest teammates ... ?

Well, paraphrasing Tyler, its beyond me.

Dave.

well, MAtthias Brandle already took it down, and he is only 24 and 25this December.

I could see about half of the track squad, the endurance squad in Great Britain, taking this off Brandle. Ed Clancy. P'raps Steven Burke. Maybe even the younger Kennaugh. Definitly Geraint Thomas. These guys would need two weeks prep, maximum. As long as they get their blood work boosted like JTL, they will break it with only two weeks. No Rob Hayles tho!

I will add "its beyond me" to "good grief" and "sounds legit".

Until now I'd never seen the source of the roadside stash incident but here it is

That year saw the Festina scandal unfold. Jaksche said that when he talked to Jens Voigt, the rider said that someone from his team suggested to bury all the stuff along the race route and pick it up after the Tour. While Voigt does not remember details of the conversation he agrees that "we talked about doping all the time back then," and thinks it's possible he joked about something like that.

The same Jens Voigt who dropped Valverde and Cunego on the Tourmalet in 2008.
And who took a minute out of Leipheimer on the Rettenbachferner in 2007 ;)
The same Jens Voigt who spent the entire first week of the 2004 Tour in the break and was still fresh enough to chase down Ullrich and pull for Basso and Sastre in the Alps :D

that article is extremely annoying as it is so difficult to follow. Feargal Mackay does himself no favours literary wise. Example below:-

If cyclists were superheroes, David Millar would be a cross between the Saint1 and Preacher. George Hincapie, for years some tried to portray him as Captain America2 but in his autobiography he presented himself as more like the Dark Knight, secretly cleaning up cycling's mean streets. Dave Zabriskie, he tried valiantly and failingly to portray himself as Captain America3 while his former boss, Jonathan Vaughters, would - obviously4 - be the Riddler5. Another ex-member of that squad, Thor Hushovd, well of course, he was Thor.

The addition of pix of Voigt's jerseys would improve it greatly. Make it more philosophical.
