João Almeida - Bota Lume

Please continue the list, don't leave out all the other riders. I wrote "most of" and you decided to chose the ones that are not underperforming lol.

How would SQS support Almeida in the GTs any better then UAE? They barelly have a team to support Remco.
He would end up working for Remco and we all know how that went...

Almeida will top 10 the Tour and the Vuelta this year. I'm confident.
Only when Almeida wins the Tour will the haters stop saying that he should have stayed in SQS.
One of them even scorns him by calling him the new Louis Meintjes bla bla.
If Almeida doesn't win a GT they will keep asserting that he should have stayed at SQS.
The best person to assess his future - salary, opportunities, ambition, environment - is and was Almeida. He didn't have the hindsight and that's what haters forget.
He seems better than ever: great form, having fun, good team mates.

Almeida looks like he is peaking for the TdF after the slow start to the season.

The ultimate diesel will kill all of Teddy's rivals with his metronomic tempo. The defining moment will come on the upper slopes of Bonette where the new Merckx will scream "I'm gone, I'm dead". Almeida will be so much in the zone that he won't notice it: only at the finish he will find out that he's just won the race.

Of course he had to leave SQS. But not the way he did.

Almeida's head bopping diesel style... love it.

He will want to beat Ayuso at all cost at the TdF, even if it cost Pogacar the TdF...

I don't have to deal with it. But Almeida. But that is now without object. He is perfectly integraded now and is performing well and regularly.
But Almeida is and remains a domestique. 2 victorys last season, 1 this season. You'll have to deal with it.
I would say he's dealing quite well with it. He is grounded as well as his fans are.

The difference between being a GT rider and a superdomestique is non important nowadays: Bernal, Hindley, Geraint Thomas, Yates, Martinez.

We have no illusions of grandeur like Remco and his fandom and the rollercoaster thread discussing cakes and lifestyle in order to explain 1kg and not to face the truth of Remco not being his country's last hope to get a Tour winner. But hey, at least he wins Clasica San Sebastian.

Even the fact that the UAE-team is very strong actually and the strongest team this season, doesn't mean the UAE-domestiques will automatically destroy the opponents during the climbs. Pogacar, even being stronger than the opponents (at least the first week) will also suffer in the wheels of his teammates. Even more than the opponents who, a little further on, will be more out of the wind in the small peloton than Pogacar.
But, of course, if Pogacar is 5% better than the opponents the first week, he will destroy the opponents anyway after a lead-out of his teammates.

Hilarious to write this from the point of view of Almeida, who has hardly won anything during his career. Comparing Almeida with Bernal, Hindley, Geraint Thomas, Yates, Martinez is absolutely crazy. The fandom of Almeida is completely blinding some. Hey, at least Almeida DIDN'T win the Clasica (three times), twice Liège, several small stageraces, one GT, a worldtitle on the road, a worldtitle TT etc etc etc.
At least, I have the decency to recognise the qualities of Almeida... but also his weaknesses. You only criticise Evenepoel and others.... since years.

Yes, those riders are all comparable as far as their status as being GT riders and domestiques. You can be both. So much for your "muh Almeida is not a GT rider, is a domestique".

Like I said, the problem with Remco is not what he wins (one day races and TTs), it's what his fans think he can win despite all evidence to the contrary.

Almeida has about the same amount of wins as a few of those mentioned.

Only difference is he has "only" finished on the podium compared to a few of those who has won.

You do realize a lot of great GC-riders doesnt actually get a lot of "wins". Almeida has a lot of great results in both one-week races and GTs (not finished outside of the top 10 that he has completed).

You are underrating him.

Who cares?

He is better. That was the point.
Mate, you said some minutes ago in another thread that Rider X is better Grand Tour rider than rider Y.

Now in this thread you are saying the opposite. Rider A is better than rider B, and it doesn't matter if the rider B already won a GT, and the rider A not. Why you think Remco is not a better GT rider since he accomplished more than Almeida?

That's true.
But what matters is to state that for now, Almeida seems to be made of what it takes to win/podium a GT if only the right conditions surface. Just like Remco, Yates, Hindley, Bernal did.

Of course I'm not placing him yet in the category of contenders like Roglic, Pogacar or Vingo or like Quintana, Dumoulin, Nibali, Carapaz were. These are/were contenders that were always dangerous despite of the right conditions.

The other thread was about the greatest.[content deleted]
So far Pog has 3 GT wins and more podiums than Vinge.

So he is by default the best GT-rider of his generation. At least he is ahead on those within it.

You have to measure it by palmares. Wins and other great results in GTs. Pog is far ahead on that.

How can Almeida be a better GT rider than Remco, if Remco has a better palmares, following your point about Pogacar?
