Jonas Vingegaard: Something is Rotten

Let's say I'm a novice and you're the experts.

How is it possible to have these performances after two weeks in the ICU?

After that injury you can run a TDF but you can't push those EPO 90s alien watts.

the injuries of Bernal/Froome/Evenepoel were potentially fatal, this??? In two months he pushes alien watts???

I rarely come on the clinic forum as I can accept most super performances and don't think everybody 'is at it'.
But this is taking the pi55.......If he really was in ICU, then it makes no sense...he's as good as ever. Which goes against everything we think we know about athletic performance.

Absent both and throw in the other big mutants for a good measure, and we might have an exciting race. Maybe even the sport would be less of a joke (which is on me, as I continue to watch).

Anyway, I'm at a loss understanding Vinge. The otherworldliness of his riding can IMHO be illustrated by the following juxtaposition: let's say a top Marathoner* goes through what JV did 3 months out of main competition? Do we expect a creme de la creme performance? I would not.

Still, the base might falter. But who knows, he seems to be gaining strength.

* Abstracting from the fact that a marathon lasts 2hrs, not 21 days

I think his performance is easy to explain. If he never crashed he would've absolutely destroyed everyone, maybe not as much as Pogacar in the Giro but it would've been an easy victory. But he might still be good enough to win regardless.

the angel rolled away the stone

what I don't get is the pre-race statements from the team expressing uncertainty about JV's condition and even his participation. what was wrong with saying Jonas is training well and is in great shape for the race. as it is the public narrative is very suspect.

perhaps they simply didn't know in what great shape he was. or maybe they just don't care how it looks - so confident ar they that the cycling media will lap up the "miracle" story

The only hope is that he runs out of base conditioning a similar way as how Pogacar was exposed on Loze last year. Otherwise its very difficult to accept based upon anything known about athletic recovery after the injuries and training interruption he suffered.

We will see, he's not getting weaker by any means but it's the opposite. The battle continues but the way Vingo closed the gap today is a warning for Teddy ahead of the Pyrenees. Vingo can still crack at some point but it's not looking like that. if he avoids any bad day till the end of the race it'll be ridiculous given his preparations.

I was just in the Basque Country and I can promise you the food out there has magical properties, whatever they were feeding them in the hospitals must have been even better than dope.

Idem Pogacar.
Maybe also Pogacar. But today, Pogacar was a bit fading during the last km. He also had two breakdowns (a huge one and a small one) during the Tour 22 and a huge breakdown in 23. So, that makes Pogacar a bit more human.
Vingegaard was defeated a few times in the past. But never decisive during the Tour. And after what he showed after his crash, with broken bones, a pneumothorax, intensive care, two weeks in hospital........ in that short time, is completely ridiculous.
