Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

Final km reminded me of Longwy last year. He can do a decent sprint, but a 1km 6% uphill sprint he's actually surprisingly *** at considering his normal sprint is okay for a climber.
It was a truly woeful sprint.

If it is a sign for future sprints pogi will collect all the boni seconds with relative ease. But at the end of the day if Jonas drops him on a big climb it won't matter much.

Although Poga is probably gonna collect the bonus seconds and increase his lead, Jumbo will do a better job protecting /working for Vinge and that will definitely help him in the third week.

As a team, UAE looks somewhat uncoordinated.

Why would they sprint? Starting Day 2 of the Tour, UAE will be defending the first week including the sprint stages. Conceding a few seconds to save your team for weeks 2-3 starts now and that's the best way to play.

I agree with you until the last sentence. How can you infer UAE wasn't coordinated? Don't know how you came to that conclusion when they completly cooked Jumbo.

Well, it did n't take long for the "why did n't they take Roglic?" to begin, but Vingegaard got isolated too quickly on stage 1.
Jumbo do need though to keep the pressure on Pogacar to see how good his legs are after some tough stages.

Vingegaard is here to win the tour. No reason to burn any matches for a potential stage victory to Van Aert. And with the chance to lose even more time to Pogacar.

In 2021 he would have closed the gap without hesitation.

Sorry but this is ridiculous, he wouldn't have gotten dropped from that group from doing a pull one time. Nor would he have had a chance to get bonification seconds even if he didn't. It wouldn't have cost him anything.

When was the last time you saw the defending Tour winner work for a teammate in the beginning of the race?
When's the last time a defending Tour winner had a teammate that could both win bunch sprints and is a super-domestique in the mountains that was an integral part of the previous year win? Repaying such a guy with a 500 m effort would be outrageous, obviously.
