I stand by what I said based on the information available. I wonder if I misevaluated the quality of training he was doing early on in his recovery before he went to Tignes.

Also, Benoot was literally saying none of them would have bet on Vingegaard finishing on the podium, and Zeeman was super uncertain about Vingegaards form before stage 1. I really don't think Vingegaard was doing some great numbers 2 weeks ago in training.

They have a strategy of communication, they would naturally hide the true.

I think Visma is unsure of Vingegaard's shape COMPARED to Pogacar and for that reason they were hiding his shape but they know Vingegaard can win the Tour with one leg if Pogacar wasn't racing.

Looks to me that Vingegaard is just an insane responder to training a bit like Pog. These guys casually demolish riders in their first race of the season without being close to their peaks.

Another way of saying it would ofc just be they are more talented than the rest.

Actually based on today Ving seems to be a responder to NOT training.

Rewatching it, the team also made a big difference today. UAE were unable to drill the first ascent while Vingegaard started both ascents in perfect position. Yates only got to the front ~halfway up the second ascent and Pogi's attack was quite late, after the steepest part.

Lemmen is proving to be very good on these kinda stages. Tratnik and Benoot also huge. Just a very solid team that lacks high mountain climbing now

Sure, I still want to see how he rides on stage 4 before I'm confident he can challenge Pog.

But sure looks good so far. And the team seems more dialed in to ride for Vinge than UAE for Pog, at least so far.

Ofc, it's possible (IMHO still likely) that Vinge will not have the deep fitness base required to sustain hard efforts for 3wks. Reversing the roles, Pogo could sustain these kinds of short ones just fine during the first couple weeks last year. So, thinking ahead, the expectation is that Vinge might as well collapse at a point.

But maybe Vinge is different and defies everything I think I know about these things.

The difference between Visma and UAE is simply night and day. UAE might have all the watts in the world, but I don't think Ayuso and Almeida have made a single pull this race, while Visma is perfectly using all their guys. I've lost count how many times Pogacar has gone into a crucial short climb out of position and with no teammates in sight.

Vingo paying the price for his rushed preparations is definitely a plausible scenario this year. But we have to remember that Pogi can also pay for his efforts (GT double attempt).

Good news for Jorgenson that his domestique is looking strong.

Yup, it's all sandbagging. Pog is wasting energy vs Vingo (who's prepared only for a one-week race) before the mighty Matteo performs a devastating attack later in the race.

Jumbo always play their chances down for some reason. The number of times Wout & Roglic won in devastating fashion after claiming they've been sick, not feeling 100%, didn't have good feelings, didn't think would be a factor, didn't have good preparation etc, I just don't believe a word they say. Even yesterday Wout said he is entering the race in the worst shape he's ever been and almost won one of the toughest opening Tour stages in a long time.

If things work well on tuesday, and the stage is done in a fast pace until the last 8 km of Galibier, maybe we will see him doing a "surprise". It's a shame the last 8 km not being even more steep, because altitude+stepness is the perfect combination for him.

My answer to the poll has changed from not strongest on his team to will be strong early on but fade late. Attrition is what I’d expect to be his limiting factor after what he’s been through, despite normally being his strong suit. I do believe in cycling miracles though so nothing will be a surprise.
