Teams & Riders Jonas Vingegaard thread: Love in Iberia

I can't believe there are people who seriously suggest he faked his injuries, I mean come on. That is some advanced stage of brain melt.
It's entirely predictable. It results from the deification of Pogacar. It's been the same the last few years: for Pogi there's always an excuse, for the opposition there isn't. And now it's even so bad that if you spend two weeks in a hospital with a punctured lung and broken bones, still it isn't enough of a drawback :)

I am shocked that Jonas has made it back this far from what were clearly season-threatening injuries in the spring. His level is astonishing. The duel with Pogacar should be something in the 2nd half of the Tour. Not surprised by anything ... just hope no one is affected by crashes.

I'm actually convinced he was too afraid to respond to Pogacar and could have followed him if he had tried from the start.
He was afraid of follow the aceleration of Pogacar and explode, because probably he doesn‘t feel yet he is at 100%, but when the acceleration started to turn in high pace/endurance, the things yesterday looked good to Vingegaard. More 50 m on Pas de peyrol and he would catch Pogacar, but it is what it is, we can't change the climb.

Vingegaard has been coming the long way around to respond as well, that’s most likely not helping him get on the wheel.

I think he was close to the condition required to win the Tour already in Gran Camino/Tirreno.

The explanation for how he supposedly managed to get into his best form for this race is simple. He didn't, this isn't his best form.

I'd say double next year but tbh I can't be bothered with another ruined Giro.

Next year i think he first should try the double Tour Vuelta.

Seriously, Samu, what's the point of so many changes to the thread title of a kind like no other rider thread.

I haven't seen any other rider thread changed to make fun of the rider being without balls and picking a thumbnail that most prominently features another rider.

I've been part of other fora where thread titles got updated regularly. Of course I've learned by now that it isn't the norm on here, but now it's part of the metaverse of this thread, which I obviously didn't know would come to attract this much interest when I initially created it. Since it has been tolerated, I've been assuming, at least until the recent incident, that the admins and mods were alright with it.

I'm mostly trying to make people laugh (or maybe giggle at best), and many of the title changes have been attempts at that. In the case of the ball comment, I found it and the media's focus on it funny, and when I saw an opportunity to link it with a nickname for Armstrong, who some people have likened him to, it would go against my instincts not to run with it. That was however deemed to be across the line, and that's fine with me.

I have done nothing to hide my dislike towards the guy and what he has become, but a lot of "hate" posts have also been for humorous reasons, and I've also defended him against what I've found to be unfair criticism multiple times and will continue to do so.

I never intended to have a thumbnail that featured Pogačar more than him, but I thought it made perfect sense to have one that displayed their rivalry while it was very much ongoing, and the whole wheelsucker discussion obviously made the picture funny to me (not that I think he is one, but I would like to see him be more "champion" like given the status he's achieved).

The biggest problem is the weaker team this year, due to all the injuries and it being a transition year for the team anyway (Next year's team will be crazy good). For example, what would you do to defend on stage 14? Ideally, you want to smash it on the Tourmalet and on the 2nd climb, to make it a hell of a day for everyone. But they don't have the team for it. Perhaps to align their interests with Ineos, who have a similar profile of a leader (even though 2 levels below).

The team could had been better for the mountains, but is not that bad as many people said.

Kelderman was there yesterday, when there was only 10 guys in the GC group, Jorgenson was also close, and he crashed in this race.

I'll return to your points later. I'm too tilted at the moment after Rogla's crash.

Agree fully, think Jumbo LAB will be exposed when they will try to make the mountain stages hard and set up Vinge for an attack. A Kuss in last year's shape will be sorley missed, Hooydonck and van Baarle also. They have to hope Ineos will really try to make it hard to tire out Remco; Castro, Kwia, de Plus, Pidders, G and Bernal could do some real damage, but C-rod must be feeling good for it to happen.

I agree it's not a disaster, but it's not just missing a peak Sepp Kuss. Normally, you get a much better Wout. Normally, you would have Dylan van Baarle and Nathan Van Hooydonck, not Tratnik and Lemman (who has huge potential IMO, but never was supposed to race the tour this year). Matteo crushed so bad luck there, but it's just too much in a year like that. Still, it just showes how deep they are to be able to put a competitive team.

Ofc an in form WvA, van Baarle, and Kuss would make the team stronger. But Is till think its one of the strongest teams anyway. And with Kelderman being the 5th best climber yeaterday, he might also be in a trajection to be some sort of super domestique in the final week.
Stage 15 have a lot of steep climbs before PdB, think the team will lack some power here to make them hard. On some other stages, for example 19 and 20 I see more potential to get the most out of the team. Sure, I'm a bit pessimistic about the team's strenght to really tire Pog out, but I don't think it's totaly hopeless.

Maybe Ineos will help out on stage 15. They might think a superhard stage before PdB will the best chance for C-rod to get closer to that 3rd spot.
