Kudos - he wasn't flashy but got the job done as the overwhelming pre Vuelta favorite. In the age of Pogacar its easy to forget that winning a grand tour with the previous grand your in the legs isn't a fait accompli.

He is a comfortist, so it's not easy to judge his answers in an interview where we don't hear the questions.

I expect them to "in the end realise that you can control the preparation for the Tour better by not doing the Giro but going on a training camp instead" at some point during the winter.
But Jonas wants the Giro so he will probably have it next year.

I think both he and they already realise, and that his answers when asked about the Giro is his agreeable nature showing.

Negatives aside, good win for him. He's too good to only have two Grand Tour wins, nice to see him finally getting an easy one even if it was a bit weird with both him and Almeida being a bit below par.
It makes perfect sense for him to go for the trifecta and get all 3 GTs in his cabinet. And it sounds like a big career goal for him when he talks about it.

Yea, I saw that after I posted, but being tired can lead to weakness in the immune system, which skinny, over-worked cyclists are suseptible to. It's funny, you can rev the engine for months without getting sick, but then it hits all of the sudden.

Everyone has an interest in the Giro in September, question is who still has it in January.

But winning the Giro also matters. I get what you are saying but even you said he doesn't have s great chance of winning the Tour against Pogacar. Why not win the Giro and be more relaxed to the Tour?

After two Tour defeats Pogacar tried the Giro. Maybe Vingegaard, after two defeats, will do the same next year.

I fear that you are right, but I cannot imagine the opposition next year to be Dani Martinez and Zombie Thomas.

Zombie Thomas almost beat Rogla the year before though. Many guys will focus on the Tour but likely one strong guy from Bora and one from UAE will be Vingo's main rivals. If they are too good then maybe it won't be a good training before the Tour.

I suppose it might depend whether he/ the team actually think he has a shot against Pogacar at the Tour. I know at the moment they seem fairly far apart, but I'm always conscious that I thought the same, but in favour of Vingegaard, after the 2023 Tour.

The issue with the Giro is that he won't know whether he'll be fresh enough to ride it until after the Tour and then it'll be too late.
The team want to maintain their spot among the best in the world, and for that they need to win big races. The Tour is difficult at the moment and monuments have been tricky for longer, but the Vuelta and Giro have proved to be possible, so I could see the team considering it. Winning all 3 GTs in his career would be a major accomplishment for Vingegaard. Achieving it before Pogačar would possibly be the cherry on top.
They probably won't make the decision for next season until the routes have been announced, although studying them in detail doesn't seem to be one of his favourite pastime activities.
