Of course not, that would be weird.
I definitely don't think he came to the Tour not hoping to win it. However, he can be hoping to win - and doing the best he can to actively reach that goal - while fully aware that it's entirely possible that he just won't.
Today both he and his DS came to the truth of being a solid 2nd place is Success. It's pretty amazing what he's accomplished with so little time to prepare. They should also be conscious that the last week could do some damage to the balance of the season if he's forced to go too deep. If I were their strategist I'd be sitting on Remco or 2nd tier challengers. Tadej and UAE may throw someone up the road but there isn't any reason to go nuclear to build the lead as the TT will provide a better signature win.

Are you telling me Pogacar just smokes peak Jonas for breakfast now?

He is a year or two younger. Most multiple winners since the dark ages seem to reach their absolute physical at 26-27. Contador 2009, Froome 2015. It’s possible Pogacar still had more room to improve. I’m not saying that’s the case, but it’s a possibility.

After suffering from - amongst other injuries - pneumothorax in Pays Basque, it‘s almost a miracle that Vingegaard is so strong in the Tour; also today. I feared he perhaps would never come back extremely strong.

His Tour preparation clearly suffered. Otherwise, he would climb with Pogacar until the finish line.

He‘ll probably finish the Tour in 2nd spot, and will be really strong at the Vuelta.

What i heard Jonas say is that it was his best performance on a bike

I didnt hear him say anything about numbers

Performance could mean in relation to his crash and return

Also Pog did say he was on the limit at one stage until Vinge stood up and weakend then he attacked

WRONG.

Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard both did the best and second-best climbing performance of all time on the Plateau de Beille climb, making this the greatest climbing stage of all time.

" Pogačar did 6.98 ᵉW/Kg for 39:50 min, which is by far the greatest climbing performance ever, taking into account conditions and the stage difficulty. Sea normalised power for this historic effort is 7.27 ᵉW/Kg. Pogačar’s adjusted altitude score was 696, which means this performance was equivalent to pushing 6.96 ᵉW/Kg for 60 minutes at sea level. Jonas Vingegaard, despite losing 68 seconds did the second-greatest climbing performance of all time. The Dane did 6.85 ᵉW/Kg for 40:58 min. His altitude score was the second highest in history with 685. Until today, Marco Pantani’s Alpe d’Huez in 1997 was the best in history. "

I know Jonas is a family man and all, but I thought his job was to win bike races for Visma. If he doesn't do the Vuelta, then theres basically nothing else to do the rest of the season for him? Maybe Worlds and Lombardia, but c'mon, thats usually not really his cup of tea.

What would have happened if Trine was expecting during the Tour?

I assume they've tried to schedule it to not interfere (too much) with the Tour.
It has sounded like he wants to ride Worlds, but I don't know if that's still a goal.

And definitely great ride today. No regrets, he did all he could. JV and Vingo executed their plan, the attack was devastating to everybody but one.
And important to note: Jorgenson accelerated and only Pogacar was there. I've said this elsewhere but, after taking 3 minutes out of the break by himself on one climb to be able to launch like that is unreal. Given the chance to not be the tractor for this last week we could be talking about him in the same frame with Pogacar. Jonas should pay attention to that.
