on Topic: there are two things that come to my mind about this issue: SKY management/Brailsford is either extremely confident they can literally get away with anything at all & simply disregard matters like JTL's suspicious blood values surfacing OR they're beginning to be sloppy/careless/ & mistakes like this one will be appearing from time to time, indicating that the ship has an enormous leak....

Walsh is on the case. They will say they had no idea about his blood values when he signed and that this proves that its impossible to dope while at sky (and hope that noone asks how it is possible for others to go in the opposite direction)

One thing that does come straight to mind is that if the difference between JTL this year and last year is drugs, then the drugs in this day and age are ****ing potent.

The same thing that makes you go off the sauce may make you go off your training a bit too. i.e. if you're doping your motivation is going to be sky high. He could actually finish races in 2010/2011.

They provided data to the scam artist who declared Armstrong clean. They did not include any data prior to Froome's miraculous transformation.

That is not transparency. That is a calculated public relations campaign designed to avoid giving out the data that would be the most illuminating.

This. +10000

I seriously cannot believe that more people cannot see this.

yeah.

funny how walsh is now on twitter in a hurry to try and sell this as if he's breaking the story and as a sign of him being critical of sky, whereas probably this story would have broken with or without walsh.

lol

It sounds like he pulled a Wiggins.

Funny how Sky never bothered to examine his test numbers enough to see they were hiring a sketchy rider. Or maybe Brailsfraud does not care.

At least Vaughters checks this stuff out before hiring someone.

you know JV does his due diligence to see that he is getting what he pays for. He only wants to know Pistolero can pass the tests and keep a pretty clean biopassport and manage his levels when winning doped.

JV wants to win doped, but look clean. That is his due diligence. Good in the respect that he will get what he pays for, and not have an embroglio and @ss fu,king like JTL

Deep thoughts from Wilcockson and Peloton Magazine about JTL. You really cannot make this stuff up.
What the French do not grasp is that the new generation of successful non-Europeans are from countries--Australia, Great Britain and the U.S.--that emphasize hard work under the supervision of coaches and mentors who don't carry the baggage of Europe's culture of doping. Locke's mentor and onetime coach is Colin Lewis, a former British pro road champion and Tour de France rider, who has a strong anti-drug stance ever since he raced in Frqnce as an amateur in the 1960s.

Comedy gold.
this overarching motif is why the italians on lampre and liquigas said of Garmin "those @ssholes"

I wonder if this points to a bigger problem in british cycling. JTL won the jock wadley, beating dan staite who tested positive for EPO. Also, Marcel Six refused a dope test at the end of the crit series following a string of good results.

Sky just released a statement.

29 September:
The Sunday Times today published a story on Team Sky rider Jonathan Tiernan-Locke. In response to this, Team Sky has said:

"Team Sky has been informed by Jonathan Tiernan-Locke that the UCI has notified him of a potential discrepancy in his biological passport data.

"He has withdrawn from racing whilst his response to the UCI is prepared then considered by the UCI.

"We have no doubts over his performance, behaviour or tests at Team Sky and understand any anomaly is in readings taken before he joined the team.
"Team Sky has tried to respect what should be a confidential process, allowing the rider to explain in private, without prejudice, and the anti-doping authorities to do their valuable job.

"At this stage in the ongoing process we will not add any further detail."

I don't think it was "managed" leak.
Walsh appeared to catch Brailsford by surprise.

Judging by the statement released above, I agree. That has been released first thing this morning in the last half an hour(7am) and Walsh seems to have caught them on the hop.

*tinfoil hat on*

Isn't Tiernan-Locke one of Andrew McQuaid's riders? :D

*tinfoil hat off*

Yes and it puts the bed the notion that Pat played a spiteful part in all this.

So:
graphRiderHistory.asp

is really suspicious?

So much for the hammering on details by Brailsfart and co. I do hope he looked him in the eyes.

Perhaps it was the higher training load?
http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/1...pproach-in-order-to-get-back-to-top-form.aspx

''So it has also been about learning, but also about trying to adapt to the different training and having a programme set out for me. In the past, I always just looked after my own training and came up my own plan.”

http://www.inthegc.com/2012/04/jonathan-tiernan-locke-trained-with.html
''It is likely that many will draw their own conclusions from this, however I'm pretty certain that Brian has used Tenerife purely to benefit his rider's performance ahead of the Vuelta a Castilla y Leon and any Input from Team Sky and their extensive set-up would obviously be a massive benefit to a Continental rider like Jon Tiernan-Locke in preparation for more gruelling stage races and this in itself would not be uncommon as Brian Smith is eager to point out.''

Yet they did not test his blood?

We should ask the Secret Pro is he is that GT winner who was about to get popped for passport irregularities, as the Tour of Brittain is the fourth GT on the calendar.

I remember JTL being "upset" by training last year too, having been let finally to do his own "training" back then.

Also, he is in for a lot of money trouble. The contract signed at Sky has some nasty clauses in case you **** up.

Yup, he won't have a pot to **** in when they're done with him (pun not intended).

Surely Sky would have tested his VO2 max when they did their own blood tests... Oh no wait - Sky don't test the VO2 max levels for their riders..

Of course he was!

I wonder what Smith is going to say

That's what I was thinking myself. I'm sure he will be commentating on Lombardy or Beijing in the next couple of weeks.

Remember Dan Martin criticising no doping controls at Haut Var and Mediterranean where JTL won. I wonder was this because of his suspicion of JTL's performance at the time.

They tried that with Froome and did not like the results. The machine read "average club rider". After that they decided they should not do any measurements until the "marginal gains" had kicked in.

I've no doubt that he'll make another BS comment along the lines of his ToC 2011 (or was it 2012?) comments as the Feds were deposing USPS riders
