Also, in theory, 2012, Sky could look to the following to aim for British success to energize the patriotic fanbase:

GTs & stage races (TT-biased): Wiggins
GTs & stage races (climb-biased): Froome
TTs: Wiggins
Sprints: Cavendish
Flat/Cobbled Classics: Thomas, Stannard
Hilly Classics: ?

It was the one gap in their plan for worldwide, universal cycling domination in all the big races. Cavendish could win San Remo (he's done it before) and the Olympic RR, Thomas was the hope to win RvV and Roubaix, Wiggins and Froome between them could share out any stage race they wished to enter, and Wiggins to aim for the Olympic and World TTs as well as the Tour. But Sky's best men for the hilly Classics were - and still are - the Colombians (now only Henao of course, but still). JTL gave them a shot at having a British rider who would be capable of targeting those races, and then they would at least have somebody who the home fans could get invested in for all the major races.

I agree LS. That was a big part of the attraction for Sky. Of course Hitch and a few others think Froome can win the hilly classics but I just don't see it. He doesn't have the required ''punch'' as well as the technical skills to be a big favourite to win those races.

Even if he does win them in the future, at the end of 2011 when the golden 2012 squad was formed nobody could guess what would happen. Many expected Froome to be a decent top ten candidate, not the powerhouse on both climbing and TT he would become. And if at that time someone would have said he would win classics he would surely be in a minority position.

Indeed, it's discutable if they saw Froome as the go-to man for Climbing GT's for 2012, arguably they went for Wiggo all the way and saw Froome as either helper/backup. But that's a guess, no ideawhat Sky was thinking at the time.

It's weird how he was almost a better hilly classics rider in his bilharzia days.

JTL joined Sky after the 2012 season, not the 2011 one.

LS is talking about the 2012 line-up, not the 2013 line-up. And that's not a typo frm him, as he includes Cavendish.

Been very quiet on the JTL front lately. If everyone forgets he rode for sky, then it never happened in the first place.

So what country does JTL come from? Obviously using stolen ID because as everyone knows Brits don't dope.

Sky have possibly stopped paying his wages at present.

Could be, although I'd have thought they would be obliged to pay him until the outcome of the investigtion? I'd have thought they would have learned from the LA/USPS affair that it is best to keep ex-employees happy...

Well maybe they feel confident that JTL wouldn't have anything interesting to share with the world.

Mark L

I don't believe in Millar or anyone else who's been busted and now plays the 'I'm anti-doping' card.

If he is on 400K a year why would he need to sell kit for a few £ on ebay?

Last year's kit?

Or disposing of that oh-so-clever little mesh number? Not much chance of sunburn in UK just now.

I would guess they have the outcome.

It will only be published on UKAD after the period for appeals runs out, or the appeal is heard.

Get ready for the Sky publicity - look we are so anti-doping, we are glad he has been caught blah blah, it shows that the passport is working blah blah.

just mayble jtl will be acquitted because sources close to sky said me they aren't looking for a rider to replace him anymore when they were looking for one 1 month back.

Doubt he would be selling his kit for a few quid if he was going to be acquited, why would he need to do that if he was still going to be recieving his big Sky salary?

Is it 2013 or 2014 kit he's selling? They're only recently got all of their 2014 kit so it might be his 2013 kit that he's getting ride of.
