He was always out at the same level as Asgreen and Stybar in classics. I can’t remember him riding for anyone else in those races, and honestly De Lie still has a lot to show in big races against the best to deserve such help of Lampaert.
I seem to remember his presence in Roubaix 2019 giving the team more tactical options (forcing others to chase instead of just watching Gilbert), which ultimately helped Gilbert win.

I'm not suggesting he turn into Declerq.

Then again he probably has enough UCI points on his own to squeeze some decent dubloons out of the likes of IPT.

Yes, and Im struggling to think of a team who still would be in for him or would be a good fit.

Best I can think of is Jayco... but would they really sign a young American sprinter as second fiddle to Groenewegen?

Israel is another one, being second-fiddle to Ackermann.

EF... but not really a sprinters team right now.

Or a wild card... Astana. Might be crowded there with Bol, Kanter, Syritsa and potentially Cav. They might throw him a bone though.

Who knows, Ineos might fancy a young sprinter for their team.
He's linked to specialized, so he could land at bora if no space at the merged team

The WT license cannot be sold, according to the answer a Lotto DS got from UCI.

cannot be sold UNLESS a pro-conti teams buys the company holdimng the licence (Decoilef) and all the riders with a valid contract. otherwise UCI will be fine with 17 WT teams for 2024. this means 1 more wild card for GTs

Am I the only one that sees a problem in paradise with the Remco-Vingegaard pairing? If you thought Vingegaard and Roglic had issues, what on earth is going to happen when you put Remco and Vingegaard on the same Tour de France team? I can't believe how naive some people are being claiming it'll work. Maybe for a season, lol but then what? I just don't buy this idea that Remco is going to be happy with the Giro and the hilly classics. I don't see Remco's personality (or at least what he projects publicly) and Vingegaard's personality (or what he projects publicly) being a good match.

Can anyone sum up the latest rumors? I feel like we should have one person do that every day until this get's resolved. My understanding is that contrary to what the French press said yesterday, everyone is back to thinking that Remco is back in the deal and headed to Visma-Soudal- Amazon? Did Patrick's letter ever come out? Any new developments today?

Yeah if the Soudal-Quickstep and Jumbo-Visma owners were in talks at the Tour why would SQS requisition some cool signings like Landa and Lamperti before the merger/takeover was agreed?
Because it obviously wasn't agreed yet. We don't even know if it has been agreed right now. Need to have a team for next year if somehow nothing changes.

Nobody seems to really know, but I think Jumbo are just worried Froome is getting stronger and the team this year wasn't strong-enough to beat him in 2024.

Going to backfire big time for these chumps when Froome uses the bumper 11.2 million per year he gets from Adams to buy that spare WT license and insert himself into the Le Tour #StriveForFive

Sooo Roglic leaves Jumbo when faced with the prospect of fetching bottles for Jonas at the TDF, but then signs with Ineos only to fetch bottles at le Tour for Remco?
I don't think Remco and Roglic on the same team is the same as either with Jonas. Jonas is the two time defending champion. If you ride on his team, you're for him. Meanwhile I could see Remco and Roglic riding as co-leaders with the Ineos train supporting them. But yeah, I don't Ineos signing both. The whole Remco to Ineos rumors only made sense when it sounded like Roglic was going to Bora.

Remco is not a GT rider.
Has someone told Remco that? I thought this whole thing came about because supposedly Patrick didn't support Remco's GT ambitions. Now he's going to be cool not trying to win a grand tour at either Ineos or Visma-Soudal- Amazon? I don't buy it.

Maybe this Vuelta has given him hope he can sneak in through the back door.

He may have strong GTs in the future but the Kuss route is the most likely for now

That's funny. Vinge has one only one more GT than Remco. So Vinge must be barely a GT rider . Corona stopped Remco from winning his second GT.

Come on.

The Tour is a step above the other two GTs, we all know that.

Not to mention beating Pogacar twice in a row, rather than Mas and Ayuso riding his first GT.

Evenepoel may become a great GT rider in future, but he is yet to prove he has the consistency for it.

No way JV is getting Evenepoel to be a luxury Dom - who occasionally gets his shot.
They are absolutely getting him to be a captain, in GTs Vingegaard is not targeting, in 1-week stage races and in hilly classics.

This whole thing probably started when Roglic wanted out of his contract, once he realised Vingegaard would be captain for the Tour for the foreseeable future.

That paired with the ambition to become the premier Benelux team, made a move for Evenepoel while releasing Roglic for (probably) a great deal of money the right decision.

For Evenepoel it makes sense, because he gets to go to the worlds premier stage racing team to hone his skills (he's only 23).
For Roglic it makes sense because he gets his shot at the Tour as solo captain before his career is over.
For Vingegaard it makes sense because he gets a younger lieutenant who is not constantly disgruntled.

All that on paper of course - once egos come into play it may change ;)

I agree with this completely except for one thing- Remco seems like he wants to win the Tour now. Maybe that's delusional in an era where Vingegaard is clearly the best grand tour rider in the peloton but if Remco was fine with being anything other than a Tour rider, why not just stay at Quickstep? Beyond that, I agree with everything you said, great points.

Roglic, Remco & Vingegaard on 3 different teams seems logical. Jumbo lose their #2 but get a sponsor appears to be worst off from all the merger talk, but we'll find out when we know all the details.
This whole saga must have been in the air ever since at least we heard about Brailsford ringing up Remco's dad. Ineos letting so many riders go was also a giveaway that something is up.

I think this whole thing hinges on Jumbo's finances. Were they in trouble financially the way some reports suggested? Were they desperate for a sponsor the way some reports suggested? If the answer is yes to those questions than I think the 'merger' is going to look one way with someone like Remco probably not coming aboard. Or, is this just a Plugge power move to become the premier Benelux team and replace an unhappy Roglic with a younger Remco as others have suggested? Which one is it because it can't be both.
