There was a t-shirt doing the rounds amongst former slipstream riders that went something like "Friends dont let friends ride for slipstream".

Says lots.

Would love to know how much JV manages to pay himself for this sham.

It’s a LLC so there is no requirement to make the salaries public.

It is a good thing. To keep people who do not have the need to know out. Nosey reporters are the worst types and then there is the authors of horrible publications that live to ruin good people and patrons of the sport.

JV is probably one of the best admins of a team out there.

He deserves much credit for Wiggins 2009 - JV practically made him.
Hesjedal 2012 JV was much involved with all of his work.

Surely the primary role of a team boss is to attract sponsorship money. Everything flows from that. The better they are at doing it, the more successful the team is likely to be.

People are welcome to criticise the likes of Brailsford and Unzue, but the foundation of the successes of their teams has been their ability to secure long term sponsorship from big multi-national companies.

Hesjedal 2012 JV was much involved with all of his work.

Except JV claims to have not hardly seen or talked to Wiggins at all about training or otherwise in 2009. He was already getting his advice from future Sky.

I'm a fan of what JV was able to accomplish for the sport of cycling. I gave an example of Wiggins and that is obvious that his cycling was not a success until he started as a journeyman under JV. There are others and it is easy for us to search the past to find them.

The way JV has guided this team through years of success is commendable.

Well sorry but his love for dopers is no stronger than other pro teams out in the Pro Tour. It is obvious there is a dislike for only an United States Team. That is sad especially considering the current disposition of team sky. They are so far amok in drug scandals and investigations that it is a pure shame. Seems fans of other teams like to cast stones but not understanding their own team is caught in the scandal.

But, without sarcasm, by that standard Vaughters is a rather successful team boss too. Sure, the team hasn't been as stable as some others, or as well funded. But he managed to keep things running in the World Tour for nearly a decade now, which is something.

Previous signings were, for the most part, internally consistent with JV's alleged policy, regardless of how insincere it actually was. This is just signing a notorious, more or less proven doper for the sake of it.

Not sure SdB does much these days, he certainly isn’t directing the team nor doing interviews.

Or one could argue that a part of other teams' success is that they develop and maintain a long term relationship with a sponsor while Slipstream's sponsor churn rate suggests a large part of their problem is poor sponsor relations.

Now one can ask what exactly is the problem here. It could be that the general manager - JV - doesn't actually want to manage and would prefer to be off coaching riders or acting as DS. It could be just bad luck after bad luck after bad luck in courting and landing the wrong sponsor. It could be that cycling's economic model is borked and the only thing that will save teams - Slipstream to Sky - is revenue sharing. And franchises for life.
