Lance appearing on Oprah next week

Very funny, and perhaps even a little ironic, that another
publicity w-hore using cancer (although not his own, but
his imaginary dead girlfriend's) has knocked Lance and
Oprah off the front pages in the USA.

Sorry for being late to the party, who are you talking about here?

A still from the interview. Lance actually looks like he's hurting. Good. Nothing can make up for the pain he has caused.

Just to give you guys a heads-up.

From a technology perspective trying to watch this directly at Oprah's site will probably fail unless their team has spent tons of money for edge caching.

If I were someone interested in viewing the whole thing, I'd find one of the many alternatives out there for watching a television broadcast over the web. If you are a regular viewer of web streams for cycling, you know what I'm talking about.

Fair warning: In some countries, that violates many copyright rules, so be aware of that.

Good luck to my brothers and sisters in engineering that will be trying to keep that video stream running!

I'm going to wait for the summary. I just don't have the time and I don't want to reward anyone for the awful circumstances that made this.

His pride is hurting. And you can be sure that a person with that level of narcissism will take out that hurt on someone. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the guy about now.

It might happen, but I expect them to be prepared, and have the backend streaming network (different edge servers worldwide) handling the load accordingly.

Just heared rumors that Armstrong didn't confess doping but only said that he used certain things cause of his cancer and that the UCI knew about that.

Oh my oh my he is even more of a jerk i'd ever thought of if that is true.:eek:
You heard that where? That does not sound consistent with anything I've read in the AP, NY Times, etc., based on reports from people who were there.

I am confused (what else in new):

On the OWN website, the banner says, "Watch it here... 9pm ET/PT"
http://www.oprah.com/own_tv/onc/lance-armstrong-one.html

I live in Los Angeles, so wouldn't I be able to watch the stream at 6pm since PT is three hours behind ET?

IF that's true, it would be consistent with Oprah saying Lance did not confess in the way she thought he would. Mmm...

He has huge legal liability issues to face: I very much doubt his lawyers would "let" him confess. It's self-contradictory (to his interests right now), esp. if the govt. is to enter the case against him vis Postal. Doubt they would just sit at the interview all happy if he was fessing up. Apparently they had no objections at the interview. That doesn't square with a full confession.

So the rumours might be true.

There must be two cable feeds, one East and one West. So my guess is that it will be streamed twice, @ 9pm ET and @ 9pm PT. I don't think you have to wait. Connect at 6pm! :D

Thanks will certainly try. Don't have to work tomorrow. I have a nice cold 6-pack of Bud (not Mich) in the fridge, and gonna make me a big plate of super nachos. My cat's gonna get Temptations treats along with some catnip. Fiesta time.

Satellite TV in the U.S. had/has?? channels from a number of timezones. Unless you "steal" it from the Internet or Oprah's site actually stays up, I think that's the only way to see the 6pm feed. I don't recall cable/DSL subscribers having that luxury. I know I didn't before I quit spending money on it.

The content was ready for broadcast before today. Plenty of broadcast production industry people have seen it already. None of them want to lose their rather anonymous careers by blabbing about it. Once the show is out of editing, the content is delivered to the multiple broadcast location/providers depending on the broadcaster's setup and queued for play.

It depends. If Oprah's site is doing geolocating/timezone checking in your browser, it might make you wait until 9pm PT. Is there a 'countdown clock' shown in your browser? That might give you a clue if they are testing for your location.

I have my doubts they will be able to keep the Internet stream up anyway. You might want to consider some Internet-based alternatives at 6pm. I have no doubt there will be quite a few.

I just read some of the comments on that page. Timezone calculations are confusing Americans. No wonder so many can believe that dinosaurs and people existed at the same time. THAT is scary.

http://www.oprah.com/own_tv/onc/lance-armstrong-one.html has this line

Late last year, Armstrong resigned as chairman of the foundation he created, Livestrong, which has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in the fight against cancer.

I wish most of the members of the media who have jumped on to the anti-Armstrong bandwagon would do a bit of research and actually discover that the fight against cancer, Livestrong does no such thing.

I'm sure many were disappointed by LA's carry on, but tell me about this actual pain?

How many cancer sufferers were inspired by reading his book when he was a hero?

Anyway I'm digressing - I'd just like Tom to elaborate on the pain he described, instead of his initial reponse of passing it off as if one should automatically know.

It simply would not have been possible had he not been cheating and lying, not to mention having had an army of enablers.

Are you comparing him with Robin Hood?

I agree with you totally on your point above.

Not comparing him with Robin Hood at at all. For one, esentially, LA didn't discriminate who he "stole" from / de-frauded, and could be argued only a certain clique benefitted from goings-on.

I'd just like Tom to define this pain he mentioned? Maybe too much to ask ....

Tom was fairly definite in his mentioning of this pain, so I am wondering can he elaborate?

Like who was in pain due to Lance? . . . . Tom?
