"Emotional" means that Armstrong realized that, of the "ten close friends and advisors..." AP describes as accompanying him to the interview; all of them were paid to be there. You'd cry too if no one would be caught near you without being paid.
Now we know why it's taken this long to have his Oprah moment: it's taken him years to learn how to act like he cares....

"The disgraced cyclist confessed to using performance-enhancing drugs during the taping."

:D

Seems LA can't even tape an interview without doping.

Laughed out loud at that one.

Knowing how much Lance enjoys control...over everything..I wouldn't be surprised if he throws something out that will catch most people off guard.

It's gotta be done his way though and on his terms.

Oprah's no less a control freak. And more successful.

Oprah Winfrey set for 'CBS This Morning' Tuesday where the chat will be about the Wonderboy 90 minute interview. She's getting some good traction off the event.

90 minutes of "aren't we great? What about me? Mistakes were made. (with frowny face)"

So far, the replies on Twitter have been encouraging. Indifference or much more negative.

Oh good, for a moment it seems he was going to be getting away with it...

That settles it :

Whistleblower attorneys say that to win, the Justice Department wouldn't have to prove that the Postal Service lost money—only that the defendants in the suit knowingly misrepresented themselves in the contract with the Postal Service.

The meeting, which was tense, took place at a conference room near the Denver airport. Mr. Tygart told Mr. Armstrong that he had already had his chance to come clean, and that, at best, if he gave full cooperation, the ban would be eight years.

Mr. Tygart told Mr. Armstrong he stood accused of offenses that stretched beyond doping to a coverup marked by nearly 15 years of denials, threats and actions against anyone who told the truth about doping on the team.

When Mr. Armstrong told Mr. Tygart that he held the keys to his own redemption, said one person with knowledge of the meeting, Mr. Tygart responded: "That's b—." He told Mr. Armstrong that all he wanted to do was figure out a way to compete again.

Mr. Armstrong shot back that he would compete in unsanctioned races, hurled a profanity, and walked out.

While in Hawaii, Mr. Armstrong spent time with Ms. Winfrey. She had interviewed him on previous occasions and had been supportive of him.

He decided to do the interview. Mr. Armstrong told friends and relatives he would not talk about others, only himself, and he would not get into specifics.

I hope the JD gets a ****load of money recouped from Wonderboy. of course he's trying to settle up with them, more $$$ to make it go away. Looks like Wonderboy's out to lose ALOT more than once thought. Good, maybe the JD can toss LeMond and Becky some of that dough too.

So basically Wonderboy is so stupid, he ruins any chance of being banned for only 8 yrs. Then, upon realizing he's f^^$ that up, he then tries to 'come clean" in hopes of trying to get his lifetime ban removed or knocked down to the original deal of 8 yrs, is that how I'm understanding it? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Basically Wonderboy is an idiot(amongst other things), and now wants to be all buddy buddy so he can compete again? Gotcha....I think.

Be a hell of a lot more than that, what does Floyd stand to make if the whistleblower case finds to his benefit????

But that assumes that the case goes ahead, that he can fund it, that he wins which is far from certain, and that it happens quickly enough for him, and that the outcome even if successful is not appealed to make sure he gets paid quick enough, none of which are a certainty..
Staying out of jail I am guessing is what is motivating Landis right now, and that is a timebomb already ticking set by a court last year that will not wait to see whether Qui Tam flies
Since the Gov'mint looks to be joining the case Floyd doesn't need to worry about any funding.
As for winning? I think odds just switched from 'long shot' to 'lots better than even money'.
Especially if it is true that Lance has indicated he may be willing to testify against others involved in illegal doping
And no reason for Floyd to worry about 'quick enough' - as you noted the the ticking clock on his current settlement isn't linked to the Qui Tam action.

"Senior Justice Department officials have recommended that the government join a lawsuit filed by one of Armstrong's former teammates that accuses the disgraced cyclist of defrauding the federal government. Armstrong's U.S. Postal sponsorship prohibited illegal doping."

As the song goes "know when to hold them, and know when to fold them". If LA offers to settle that bill and his legal fees. I am guessing Landis will bite his hand off.

Here is your dinner:

Will Lance eventually implicate those involved in the original roundtable, when they sat down and conceived the story of a cancer patient's epic comeback to pro cycling? You know, his agent, Nike, Oakley and Trek... they all had a hand in Lance's doping program. Let's not kid ourselves.

Thanks for the link hog.

And Tygart is right about calling Armstrong's alleged path to redemption as the bull**** that it is.

There really is nothing to redeem about Armstrong, so why should he try and do so? If his entire career was built upon a pathological foundation of lies, then honestly, what is left of the man when that foundation gets exposed for the rotten, morally corrupt structure that it is?

It will be interesting to see what the blowback for Lance will be from the Oprah interview. My guess is that he and his handlers miscalculated on this, and he will become even more of a pariah after the interview airs, especially if he holds back and gives limited answers.

That would work too, the more crooks in deep sh*t the better.

That WSJ article is really enlightening, on top of what's already been quoted that's good too:
Mr. Armstrong's attorneys took the offensive, accusing USADA of improperly using grand jury information from the criminal investigation and questioning USADA's authority in the matter, recalled this person. By the end of the call, it became clear the Mr. Armstrong wouldn't be talking—or getting any deals.

Looks like they were still high from the Birotte shot they scored by some kind of unexplained miracle a few months before...

Armstrong is about to have his guts severed open in Federal Court.

His "apparent" attempt at redemption with Floyd etc. is all BS. He's playing the game again but this time it's a different tune.

He now wants to be the best at confessing! Can you believe this sh1thead?

Sad and pathetic.

He's going down.

Tygart telling him where to stick it was the first act. He'll give Winphrey little and start competing in the Super Frog triathlon which no one will care about.

He'll be worth about 2m in 18 months time.

No, it's like I wrote several days ago when I saw the Tygart interview. Lance went there with the attitude that he was still in control of this. He told Tygart:
"You don't hold the keys to my redemption," he said, according to the person familiar with the meeting. "There's one person who holds the keys to my redemption," he went on, pointing at himself, "and that's me."

Lance still thinks he is driving. Only when he realizes that the bus is out of control and careening down the mountain at an unstoppable speed will he possibly face reality. And he may not realize it even now, but that moment is nigh with the Justice Department advocating joining Floyd's case.
