Isn't anyone else worried that this is going to just turn out to be either a fraudulent letter or (more likely) a benign event that blows over in 24hrs?

So far, have any of the other news outlets written their own piece on this from their own source (I havent seen that yet) or are they just leaning on the CN story for now?

I am wishing that its true but worried that it isn't

I expect these things to blow over. If stuff like Puerto and Humanplasma can blow over then what chance is there for a single rider telling the truth?

We can always hope that a new crack in the dam will be the one that finally makes it give way.

I'm sorry, could you repeat that in American please?

The day before the Tour last year Wigans tweeted something along the lines of:

"Just heard news of a story which will rock the cycling world".

People thought it was another big scandal coming out, but it was Wigans being, well Wigans.

Hopefully this isn't a similar "non-event".

If it wasn't Landis who leaked this then I believe it is someone working independently who has had enough of the cover-ups and hypocrisy of the system.

That's what I guess. It has been leaked by a mole. FL is not prepared (yet) to go public, tell-all. But he confessed and spilled the beans (for whatever purpose) to some senior official. Likely the letter circulated internally among a select few, and one of those thought it was a great idea to leak it.

Scratch all of that because

Of course the 'official' could be from the UCI or even USADA.

But Tom Weisel has a lot of pull within USAC and of course he is a very good friend of Armstrong - here is an excellent story explaining it all.

And USA Cycling COO Steve Johnson is effectively a Weisel appointee.

Here is what Johnson had to say about the L'Equipe EPO/Lance story in 2005:
To me, this is an issue for the French people. They seemed very concerned about it, and frankly I don't care what they think. And I don't think Lance does either. This is just a publication in a French tabloid newspaper. That's our perspective."

Conflict of interest?

Lance : Somebody set up us the bomb.
Levi : Main screen turn on.
FLANDIS : All your base are belong to us.
FLANDIS : You have no chance to survive make your time.
Johan : For great justice.

Wall street journal is on the story.

This is the real thing.

Waiting for the forum to explode in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

Names: Armstrong, Leipheimer, Bruyneel, Zabriskie, Hincapie ....

This has a good chance to blow up far bigger than Puerto et al. Systematic doping accepted by Bruyneel @ USPS and Rihs @ Phonak. Good for Floyd. No matter how bad this gets for him I hope there is some measure of satisfaction and relief. I have far more respect for him today than I did yesterday. He will face all kinds of attacks on his credibility, most of them earned by his prior deception. But he'll still get his days in print and on TV.

Betsy and Greg are probably having a good chuckle right about now.

Wow.....

Ok, we have:

Lance Armstrong - 7 time winner of the Tour.
Steve Johnson - stayed rather quiet and as pointed out earlier has ties back to Lance.
Andy Riis - just to make it global!
The UCI - hahahahahaha
The Hog - this makes Vino laugh.
Zabriskie!! - Garmin could be lost for an answer here.

Leipheimer, Hincapie are just collateral damage.

So, what happens at the ToC??

In the email sent on April 30 to Mr. Johnson, Mr. Landis said that in 2006, after leaving the U.S. Postal Service team for a team sponsored by Swiss hearing aide manufacturer Phonak, he said he told Andy Rihs, the team's owner, that he had been involved in a blood doping program in the past with his old team and wanted to continue doing so with Phonak. He said Mr. Rihs, who is the chairman of Sonova Holding AG, the Switzerland-based parent company for Phonak, agreed to pay for the same doping operations at Phonak. After Mr. Landis's positive test—which was for testosterone and not blood doping—the team disbanded in 2006. Mr. Rihs and a Sonova spokesman could not be reached for comment.

Any truth in that? Floyd was the man who got Phonak started on systematic doping?

I wonder if FLandis and Zabriskie had a falling out. Those two were tight.

I still think that the best way to frame the revelations is not, "I and my teammates doped," but "The Postal Service paid to dope me and my teammates."
