Good to see Alaphilippe back in a breakaway in the Tour. He was fun to watch in 2016 and soo close to winning a stage

The break's not set yet.

Another interesting aspect is how Nibs is going to use Pozzo. The Giro he did will show as fatigue rather sooner than later as he has also been racing in between to certain extend. Pozzo is still close enough to be threat for yellow thus it could be he will attack or try to get to break in the next couple of days. Delphino will most probably show up as the companion for Nibs in the bunch.

I would use him today already, he's around 2 min behind Thomas, that would put pressure on Sky certainly. The key for today is to force Sky to work as early as possible.

If the break doesn't get away until the Croix Fry, the peloton will break there and those riders won't come back due to the Glieres.

Honestly this break has too much dead weight, it's gonna be very small by the time they get over the Glieres and they'll lack manpower in the valley after that. Unless there are reinforcments on the Croix Fry, the peloton will have to softpedal like mad all the way to the bottom of the Romme for this break to succeed.

Astana not in the break? They're probably not happy as it seemed in the beginning they wanted to get in.

The won't be given much space anyway - not saying the GVA has GC ambitions but they surely won't give him more than 4-5 minutes.

Really disappointing break if this is it.
I'd say it was surprisingly good given that all they've done so far is a Cat 4 climb
Sky's gonna softpedal Croix Fry, break will have 6 minutes, and it's softpedal aaallll the way to the Romme. It's what they always do, and everyone always lets them get away with it

What options do they have?

Don't let the break get more than a minute before Croix Fry.

Yeah, or maybe none other thought it would be beneficial to ride on the front when they don't need it and no conclusions can be drawn so far.
