This is what happens when a reporter gets his information from a Public Strategies talking point and not from the reporter who was actually there.

Velonews had the real story in their Giro issue last year.

Can you produce the Velonews story?

I think that morphed from a joke. No one could be stupid enough to think one shot of anything will make your a Tour winner; could they?

Lots of posts about how a single shot of Iron allowed GL to get second in the last ITT of the Giro in 89.

Again its by those that probably know nothing before the legend of LA began.

Actually Lemond stated that it was then at that point it was determined that his body was not able to absorb iron through normal pills and etc and that since being shot that his iron levels were not like they were before and as a result he needed injections.

I think Lemond was right to take the injections at that time, but these days there is an argument that if you can't injest something orally then it should not be allowed - a full needle ban.

Ding ding ding ding ding!!! We have a winner.

Why is there confusion about the number of Iron Shots.

Is there a definitive answer out there?

This old Sports Illustrated discusses the second shot.
I would expect Greg had a few more before he was nonanemic....

"Shortly after that phone call, things began to turn. LeMond had a second injection of iron and started feeling stronger. He actually stayed within shouting distance..."

GL most likely believes he did his remarkable comback on a coupel of iron shots, but only the doc will ever know for certain if that's all it contained

I wonder if you realize how silly this post is?

The shot was taken, like all iron shots, in the buttocks. EPO shots are taken in the stomach or arm. The desperation of the groupies to try to slime anyone that questions their hero is impressive.

I don't know. You'd have to ask those people who say that he returned to form after one shot, and that shot was probably EPO. Yep. You'd have to ask them.

In this video Greg describes the first Iron Shot session when he recieved three seperate shots in the bum. It starts at at about minute 38 - chapter 10

http://fora.tv/2008/02/17/Ethics_Doping_and_the_Future_of_Cycling

The author of the Sports Illustrated article describes the second session a couple of stages later fyi. It would make sense that Greg continued taking Iron Shots until his anemia was defeated.

BTW, there is nothing wrong with Iron Shots.
There just seemed to be confusion over "single-shot" versus "Mutiple-Shots".
There was no "single-shot" lol.

Again, I suggest you take it up with those who claim there was "one" shot. Like they have a clue what happened 20 years ago in Greg Lemonds private room. This thread is idiotic.

Mostly what you are focusing on is this money shot thing, huh? I think if you had a little more experience you might be able to hold back long enough so that you could enjoy something like this yourself.

If EPO is taken by subcutaneous injection then it can be done anywhere where there is subcutaneous fat - the stomach, the thy and buttock included.

It's at the bottom of page 5 and it's published by Amgen.

You mean the part where it says

Epogen can be injected directly into a layer of fat under your skin.

Professional cyclists have little fat below the waist, hence the traditional use of the upper arm or stomach. Iron injections are designed to be injected into muscle, not fat, hence the use by athletes in the Buttocks.
