Don't know much about French criminal law except you get locked up first and get proven innocent second.

Pretty much the same as everywhere else. You have to be arrested before you can be put on trial. Sometimes you get bail, sometimes you don't. Sometimes you get taken in an aeroplane to a different country where people do naughty things to you

I haven't read this whole thread, but my take is that GL's comments -- unless they are based on insider info that we don't know about yet -- are childish, and will do nothing but fuel LAs anger, which gets his motor going like nothing else. If LA wins the prologue tomorrow, GL should get all the credit.

Ahem...... I think of a lot of other substances that "gets his motor running"..... If LA wins the prologue it won't be his anger management issues.

He'd have to get in line behind Dr. Ferrari.

The art of peaking for the Tour de France

I thought the title of Greg's article was a bit misleading. I actually thought he might have something to say that wasn't about doping, whining, or sour grapes. Silly me. Should have known better. :(

Misleading:

Ok where does Lemond say something about,
doping
whining
sour grapes

My Lance Armstrong prediction? Either he will not start or he will pull out just before the race enters France. I have a feeling that the world of cycling is about to change for the better.
Maybe you aren't so silly after all.

The doping, whining and sour grapes are implicit in that GL needs to make a Lance Armstrong prediction in the first place. If nothing happens, the grapes will seem even more sour...

So your saying mentioning Lance Armstrong implies doping - fair point.

Greg didn't whine, in fact his comments sounded as though he was happy and enthusiastic.

doping: "... something had changed in cycling. The speeds were faster ..."

whining: "...Imagine suffering from the worst jet lag the day before the Tour began...."

sour grapes: "...Either he will not start or he will pull out just before the race enters France. ..." ie he just can't stand the fact that Lance won more tours and outdid Greg.

I really admire Greg for what he did racing, but I feel that he has turned into a sad, bitter man.

And I can't imagine that Floyd's Bombshell will contain anything that can be proven, or anything new. With the aid of the Wall Street Journal editors and writers it will probably be better written than his email, at least. Floyd's credibility is at about zero.

I had actually been hoping that Lance would just go away gracefully and spare us all the drama that comes with his presence, but at this point he seems like he might actually ride a credible tour.

Fair enough - on the subtle doping comment - but saying your tired is whining?! Hope you never get tired...

To the highlighted above - it appears you know what is happening in Pro Cycling, so would be happier if no-one talked and kept the up the charade?

Let's remember that Armstrong may be dirty and cycling may be dirty. If so, Armstrong and all other cheaters should rousted out. But GL is not motivated by cleaning up cycling. He is motivated, like other former greats in sport such as Jim Brown, Michael Jordan, etc., by the drive to prove he was the best ever. He does that by tearing others down. If GL did not have doping to rely on to tear others down, he would complain about the money or technology or some other factor that was not present in his day. GL's rants aren't about purging Armstrong from the sport or about saving cycling from the Sith Lord of doping. GL's rants are all about himself and proving he was the best ever. It is an boring, worn out song and GL is not the first washed up sportman to sing it.

My comment pertains to GL, not myself. Yes, when GL mentions LA he implies doping. I also agree with GL on this point; LA=doping.

However, that GL feels compelled to add this LA prediction to close his article does tell quite a bit about his mindset.

The trolls just can't stand Lemond intervening and implying that getting rid of Armstrong is a good thing.

I have been lurking on this forum and DPF since before LA taught FLandis, and I am continually amazed at how some of you jump to conclusions and insult those who you PRESUME have a differing opinion.

Question: Why not assign a control agent (or agents) to every team in the Tour. He (they) get to hang out with the team, carte blanche, total access. Nobody is hiding anything, so nothing to fear, right? Right?!

Also, I wish Greg LeMond would just go quietly into the night.

LA finishes the tour, and finishes <=5th.

Actually, Greg LeMond's details with regards to "peaking" actually give us a lot of information - especially about what's changed since the blood doping era ramped up.

Greg says that he used to "over-train" up to the final month, mentioning the Giro. Obviously a lot has changed in terms of rider management and each rider is different, but I wonder if it sheds some light on the "impossibility" of the Giro-Tour Double. For a while now I've thought that the biggest roadblock to the double is working it into your doping regime, this is further evidence supporting that notion.
Racing =/= training though, Wiggins' Giro was "hard training" but for the contenders it was a bit more than that.

Come on clean Basso and Evans!

My feelings exactly... as a big AC fan, I have friends from Spain who tell me thatthe media is all over him for doping.. yet we hear nothing here....
