What level is this? I don't recognize any of the names, apart form Zardini whom I came across in another result a while ago. But looking at the website of the race, the course was quite interesting.

Highest Italian non-pro level. Actually this is one of the races just below the Giro Bio and Valle d'Aosta.
Guys like Villella and Bongiorno will go pro eventually. Facchini and Tedeschi have been stagiaire last year. The youngsters Manfredi and Conti you'll get to know soon.

Been off the grid for a while but some updates from some 2.2 races last week

in Vuelta Ciclista Leon, the JTL train has finally come to a stop. missing a crucial break early in the race he is now 2 minutes down overall

on stage 4 most of the big players seem to have come to the fore. the stage was won by Duenas and moved him up to 4th overall. then we had a group of 5 at 18 seconds including Vallejo, Belykh, Belda and JTL. so no real changes on GC with JTL sitting in 5th but over 2 minutes down.

In Romanias Szeklerland tour we have had 2 stages. the first was a team time trial which was won by RC Arbo Wels Gourmetfein by 1 second over Brandenburg. more familiar names with ISD Lampre, SP Tableware and Tusnad filling the next 3 slots but all losing 40-50 seconds.

second stage was an interesting one with ISD making a massive breakaway that it appears no one else could chase down. going to try and find a report as all i know is we had 3 riders come in 5 minutes up on the rest of the field. 2 ISD riders, Pakhtusov and Popkov finishing just ahead of Marin from Gourmetfein. Now Gourmetfeins win in the previous TTT means Marin has a 41 second lead overall with no one else in sight.

Finally in Brittany we have the Mi-Août a Brittany. Again Endura are taking part along with Europcar

The french team dominated the first stage with David Veilleux winning by 57 seconds from team mate Thurau. Blain from Endura got 3rd. only 6 riders finished within 3 minutes of Veilleux who may well have GC sewn up already

Stage 2 was a closer affair and saw Ian Bibby from Endura take the win.

in Romania, two stage wins for Kvasina gets him best of the rest, but still nearly 4 minutes down on the top 3 that had GC wrapped up after stage 2.

in that separate little battle it was the ISD guys who came out on top with Popkov taking the overall by 22 seconds ahead of team mate Pakhtusov and 46 ahead of Marin.

no final result for stage 5 and the overall in Leon. however have seen that a break of 12 contested the stage. none affected the overall. Louis Meintjes was in there but unfortunately came 12th. Richard Handley from Rapha took the win. Overall went to Belda.

stage 3 in Brittany was Fabien Schmidt from Ian Bibby. Stage 4 no full result but confirmation Veilleux took the overall win. After some digging have seen that Marcel Meisen took the sprint on the final stage from Downing.

First reaction to Kristof Vandewalle winning it. "Lol, where'd he come from". He isn't that bad of at ITT though, upon closer inspection of his CQ points, but normally I'd expect Monfort and/or De Gendt to finish ahead of him anytime. Maybe the wind or rain conditions changed during the race? No good way of knowing, since for some reason the Nats ITT isn't broadcasted anywhere in Belgium afaik

5th in Romandie prologue 2012 (ahead of Wiggins, Zabriskie, Froome, Larsson, etc)
139th Vuelta ITT (Salamanca) 2011
11th Belgian ITT 2011 (not that they mean much)
58th TdSuisse ITT 2011
13th Giro ITT (Milano) 2011
6th Belgian ITT 2010
11th Bayern Rundfarth ITT 2010 (not that that means much, Anton was 13th, for example)

Dont think Monfort was participating, and De Gendt in 1 day races isnt really a sure bet, he can be good but he can also easely disappoint.

Monfort was definitely participating (but apparently finished out of top 5 then?). Translated quote from Sporza interview:

"I doubted my participation at first. I want to do well at la Vuelta, that starts on Saturday. There is not much time in between. But when I saw the parcours, I decided to go. It should suit me quite well".

Official results are in. Kristof VdW had quite the advantage in the end. Rosseler (20th at 6min) with a really bad time, not sure if he had technical problems or crashed, but if not I don't think he'll be selected for the Worlds TTT like he wants to be/Vaughters hired him for. Devolder DNF, apparently gave up mid-race, at this rate his 2012 season will be worse than 2011. Also Monfort saving himself for the Vuelta? If not his performance was not exactly good

1. Kristof Vandewalle 41,4 km in 56'07"
2. Ben Hermans op 48"
3. Philippe Gilbert 1'09"
4. Thomas De Gendt 1'50"
5. Gaëtan Bille 1'56"
6. Maxime Monfort 2'16"
7. Kevin De Jonghe 2'53"
8. Jan Ghyselinck 2'56" .
