Over in Spain, the regular scheduled Lokosphinx race where Sergey Shilov does some parcours-padding was scheduled, at the Prueba Villafranca de Ordizia, a hilly one-day race in the Basque Country.
Shilov won the sprint of the decisive group of 15, with Benjami Prades, the former biathlete taking a break from his usual Asia Tour calendar, in 2nd (his brother Eduard, who rides for Caja Rural, was also racing, but missed the selection) and Shilov's teammate Strakhov pipping José Herrada for 3rd. Lokosphinx also had Aleksandr Vdovin in the group to mark the only team with 3 riders to make the junction; Movistar had had three, but Pedrero fell back, looks like either a mechanical or a crash caused it but can't confirm. Orica also had two riders in the group, with Robert Power scoring his best result to date as a pro in Europe with 5th place, and Adam Yates also in the group. Jetse Bol was Manzana's one rider to make the selection in 6th, while Caja Rural, whose selection comprised almost solely their least experienced riders, were represented in the group by Alex Aranburu and Jonathan Lastra. Euskadi-Murias will be disappointed at a lack of presence in a home race, with only Mikel Iturria being alert to the split and swamped in the sprint, while Burgos-BH had Igor Merino (brother of Eider) and Pablo Torres, and for Delko we had Ángel Madrazo in the group as well.
