ToP - Press Release:
The 15th Tour de ****stan, a race modelled on the Tour de France, will be staged from the north-west city of Peshawar to Karachi with 78 cyclists, including 30 from Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Iran and Nepal competing.

The cyclists will cover 1,655 kilometres (1,028 miles) over 11 stages from March 1-13.

****stan Cyclist Federation secretary Khawaja Idrees said Afghanistan will send six cyclists for the event.

"Afghanistan is sending a nine-member delegation with six cyclists and they will be star attraction," Khawaja said.

Khawaja said India was not invited as a protest at the snubbing of ****stani cricketers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.

None of the eleven ****stani players put in last month's IPL auction were sold.

"We decided not to send an invitation to India as a protest for IPL action which was very humiliating," said Khawaja.

The 14th Tour de ****stan, held in November 2008 was won by Naimat Ali of ****stan, with Haroon-ur-Rashid runner-up and Sri Lanka's Meemanaga Perera finishing third.

The prize money is distributed among the top six finishers.

I don't know the kid, but he rides for a Belgian development team (one or more steps below the TSVs, Trek-Livestrongs and Rabo Continentals of the world) for U23 riders (not professionals). It's at least his second year there, so I think he lives in Belgium (all conjecture).

Rujano wins Langkawi stage 6 convincingly. Are ISD in the giro? Would be awesome to see him ride there.

The Langkawi field is pretty weak comparing to recent years, but i think Rujano would've mastered the Genting Highlands anyway.
Maybe Diquigiovanni's Serpa/Ochoa/Rodriguez trio would have been a match for him,had they been there.
Still,i was expecting smaller gaps between JR and Rafael Valls/Markus Eibegger.

Rujano broke Ryan Cox' Genting record by 43 seconds. I also think he is better than ever this year. He was already pretty convincing in the Tour of Colombia 2009, beating the competition into the ground.

Beware of Rujano in the Giro, he's better than in 2005.

Yeah he's been in Belgium for a couple of seasons now. Cletus is a hard nut so the conditions don't phase him at all. He's already had two top 10 finishes in the U23 Paris-Roubaix.

* March 07, 2010 |Kersten wins Singapore crit

Fly V Australia’s Ben Kersten burned up the tarmac of the F1 racing track in Singapore on Sunday to win the OCBC Cycle Singapore criterium.
4413201569_41b8185b77.jpg

Jesse Anthony (Kelly Benefit Strategies) nearly stole the show with a gritty effort when he bridged to a two-man breakaway with five laps to go in the 105-minute race. He dropped his breakmates with three to go only to be caught within 300 meters.

Kersten lit up the sprint from 150 meters to win over an international field that included ProTour riders from Garmin-Transitions, Footon-Servetto and Lampre and bodes well for his North American season, which gets under way later this month.

SINGAPORE: Last year, it had some 5,000 riders. This year, the OCBC Cycle Singapore event saw more than 9,000 riders.

World under-23 Mountain Bike champion, Burry Stander, notched up his first major victory in a cycling road race, when he outsprinted David George and Kevin Evans at the end of the second stage of the Pick n Pay Cape Argus Giro del Capo based in Durbanville in the Western Cape on Wednesday.

His time for the 143km stage, held in cool overcast conditions, was three hours 21 minutes 53 seconds.

Stander, who hails from Port Shepstone on the KZN South Coast, was part of the 21-man group of riders than managed to make a clean get-away from the bunch of 200 that started the three-lap stage, the successful move coming immediately after the sprint to the first Hot Spot in the middle of Durbanville at the end of the first lap.

The breakaway steadily opened the gap between themselves and the chasing group to over three minutes as they negotiated the two remaining laps of the 48km circuit which incorporated the three stiff climbs up the steep slopes of the Vissershok.

The stage ended in the traditional sprint to the finish on a downhill gradient with Stander's Specialized teammate, Christoph Sauser, jumping into the lead followed by Evans and George but it was Stander who got to the line first with his trademark explosive finish.

"It's my first major road win," said a visibly elated Stander. "But it was the stage my team and I most wanted to win.

"Sausi and I were both in the mix near the end and when he jumped off the front Kevin and the others took the bait and I got on to Kevin's wheel with 200m to go and then managed to pass him and David just before the line. I guess I must have a stronger kick than he has!"

Stander took not only the stage two honours but also became the overall race leader and will wear the traditional pink jersey for Thursday's 171km third stage at Paarl.

Evans, the SA 2010 road time trial champion and winner of last weekend's Sani2C MTB Classic, takes over the Powerade King of the Mountain jersey and stage one winner, Austrian Rene Haselbacher, will wear the Pickfords Points jersey.
