Figueiredo pulls Moreira back to the Camisola Amarele group, while Alfonso Eulaulio is the virtual leader, and starts pulling right away.
Camargo now attacking from the gc group, now he is the kind of guy you wanna see do well at the Volta!

Diogo Barbosa, the sun of the ultramythical sprinter-climber Candido Barbosa, is also on the attack.

Alfonso Eulalio takes the Camisola Amarela, but get's outsprinted by the Guatemalan prospect Chumil, who was in the breakaway all day and managed to hold his wheel on the 2nd half of the climb (he didn't take any turns). He was only 15sec slower than Figueiredo in 2022, both of them rode in the wind for a really long amount of time, but this year there wasn't really much of a train setting a tempo (besides the false pace by Figueiredo to protect Moreira).

Stüssi was able to drop all those guy who had stayed with him with one big attack (all those who finished ahead of him had attacked earlier) after playing possum, not having his teammate really pull hard, making faces and riding near the end of the group. He gambled, but lost the jersey. He looks like a tall Albino version of Mark Padun, if I might say that,

Inside the stage top 10 we also have the son of the legenday sprinter-climber Candido Barbosa, Diogo Barbosa, who was caught by Stüssi, but was able to stay with him.

Camargo is riding a solid race, showing that his 2nd place on the gc in the Vuelta a Colombia was no fluke. Once again 6th on a MTF.

Honestly, one of the most fun Torre MTFs that I can remember.

Afonso Eulalio seems like a really interesting prospect. Noticed him when he finished Prueba Villafranca 5th last year. This year he was 5th at the Vuelta Asturias, 2nd at Internacional Torres Vedras and is now in the lead of the Volta a Portugal. Could be someone who is worth a shot for at least teams like Burgos, Caja Rujal, Kern Pharma or Euskaltel.

Czech Tour was a really good race. Hirschi mega impressive on a proper MTF (though the opposition wasn't quite Pog and Vingegaard). Andrew August showing promising signs of life. Great stage win by Gloag, shame he couldn't hang on for a better GC in the other stages. Good to see Brenner finally looking consistent across large parts of a season. Only downer was JSM continuing to be awful.

The breakaway in Alsace put up a pretty good fight, but the catch is about to be made.
And then the gap seemed to grow again...
Less than 8 Ks to go.

Mauricio Moreira just seemed to pass out... what the hell. Hope he is okay.

went back to the medical car. Looked dazed. Started to hold onto the car. Then seemed to have no idea where he was as rode into the grass. Seemed to try and get off his bike...

and just flopped onto the side of the road.

It is damn warm today though, hope it is just that. My 5km run this morning was not pleasant in ~34c with 40% humidity... and where they are cycling today has been ~35-37c when they set off and still around 32-33.

Maté is attempting to win in Guarda for the second year in a row, and it looks like he has a decent chance of pulling it off. He won't be the favourite if it comes down to a sprint though
