Klasika Primavera Amorebieta, 1.1:

Traditional post-País Vasco hilly one-day race. The main stories of the day seemed to follow on from the stage race in question, with a solitary Caja Rural rider the break of the day (this time it was Rubén Fernández). After he was caught a group of five made a move including Beñat Intxausti and Alberto Contador, alongside Delio Fernández of OFM-Valongo (a former Xacobeo guy), José Herrada and Mikel Nieve. Their numbers soon swelled to 15, before another move from Fernández was marked by Contador. With 5km remaining Intxausti made his move, on the final climb of the day, with Contador springing across to join him. However, the last couple of flat kilometres were the end for the pair, being caught inside the final kilometre.

Not that it mattered too much for Movistar, as they were still able to confirm victory, with Rui Costa winning the sprint of the reduced group.

Gana Rui Costa

Mano a mano entre Contador e Intxausti

Ahah great victory for Rui Costa! :D

Top10:
1. Rui Costa
2. Urtasun
3. Contador
4. Intxausti
5. Herrada
6. Sutherland
7. Prades
8. El Fares
9. Calderón
10. Shalunov

When I say in the last kilometre, evidently it was even closer than that, maybe a full on Simeoni on-the-line job.

Top 5:
1) Rui Costa (MOV)
2) Pablo Urtasun (EUS)
3) Alberto Contador (TST)
4) Beñat Intxausti (MOV)
5) José Herrada (MOV)

Need to catch the highlights on ETB to see just how close it got.

Nice victory for Rui Costa.

What's the next race for him?
Will the recent Quintana victory and ascension in the team influnce the position of him in movistar team?

let's not get ahead of ourselves, he has only won in 2.2 races so far

i just saw some highlights from yesterday stage and apparently his group got away on a tough hill and he completely crushed the sprint, looked like a proper classics rider racing to be honest

highlights:

Fedrigo wins the cheese race.

Rolland was also in the late attack but decided to gift the win.

Edit:

Classement non-officiel :
1 Fedrigo (FDJ)
2 Georges (AG2R)
3 Rolland (Europcar)
4 Antomarchi (La Pomme Marseille)
5 Coquard (Europcar)
6 Geslin (FDJ)
7 Simon (Sojasun
8 Dumoulin (AG2R La Mondiale)
9 El Farès (Sojasun)
10 Pichon (FDJ)
11 Martinez (La Pomme Marseille)

Best hilly performance from Coquard so far, he was in a small move between 10-20km to go and held on to win the sprint.
