Zurlo is kicking *** in his first year as U23. But today there was a crash and only Simion, Zurlo and Ruffoni? got through.

In the Vuelta a la Rioja, José Herrada took all the mountains premiums, then the bunch swallowed the break, and I assume there was probably some wind or some such, because Orica-GreenEdge have forced a split, and now there is a front group of 14 containing all 7 GreenEdge riders (!!!). They may not have it their own way, however, because the rest of the group is still pretty strong. There are four Movistar riders - Vladimir Karpets, José Herrada, Rubén Plaza and Alejandro Valverde - and three Euskaltels - Mikel Astarloza, Juanjo Lobato and Jorge Azanza.

They now have 36" ahead of the bunch but there's still quite some way to go.

Bunch pulled them back together. José Iván Gutiérrez and Michael Albasini tried to get away in the last 10km, but no success and we got the sprint.

Francesco Lasca (Caja Rural) won this ahead of Michael Matthews. Only other note I have is that Enrique Sanz was 7th for Movistar.
