Modolo wins Trofeo Palma

1st Sacha Modolo (LAM)
2nd Jens Debusschere (LTB)
3rd Dylan Groenewegen (RIJ)
4th Gianni Meersman (OPQ)
5th Adrien Petit (COF)
6th Jon Aberasturi (EUK)
7th Michael Matthews (OGE)
8th Andrea Peron (TNN)
9th Davide Vigano (CJR)
10th Yoeri Havik (RIJ)

Nice, I've always liked Modolo since his outstanding rookie performance in San Remo. It's a pity he can't compete there anymore with the new route. Also Lampre having a very good start of the season.
When I look at this sort of results, I'm more and more concerned about Saxo-Tinkoff not having a decent sprinter to get a couple of decent wins to get the team moralised.
(Nice placing from Aberasturi. Alonso should look at guys like him for decent, cheap guys.)

Groenewegen thought he'd won. Impressive result from an espoir nonetheless.

Maybe I'm wrong but Wurf doesn't seem to have a "winning move" and maybe that's way he's underrated. But overall, he's great domestique. Also Bettiol in the front group; I think he's sort of a climber (?). I hope Cannondale is building a good climbing team again with Formolo, Vilella, Bennet, Caruso, Salerno, Mohoric (maybe)...
You're right, Wurf is versatile, just doesn't have that killer touch, while Clarke is quite punchy in his own right. He's a good diesel engine though (courtesy of his rowing background) and both Basso and Sagan rate him as a domestique. Not bad for someone who originally had to buy his way onto the squad 3-4 years ago.

Bettiol did get some decent results in Junior races, but then he looks focus on one day race. He can climb and looks fast, so maybe a rouleur in the future.

Caruso and Salerno can't get any decent GC results in the past 2 years and more likely to be stage hunters in the future

Formolo is good but lack of speed. Villella should be their real hope. While Mohoric still has much to learn as he just spent one year in U23 races.

So who is the favourite? Valverde won last year, but will probably not participate this year. I'd go for Costa.

Other challenges would include Spilak, Santaromita, Frank, JvdB and Albasini.

Don't know about Papy's shape, but he should be up there as well. He is not the best sprinter however.

Sounds like Swift would have won if he hadn't been blocked by Quick-Step:(

I'll go with Albasini. Hell even Swift could make it if the pace is soft.
Swift himself says that he thinks Edvald is a good bet for tomorrow. So either Edvald is in the shape of his life, or Swift hasn't studied the profile at all...

A climber should win this race, Puig Major is a really tough climb.

Very good chance for Rui to get that first win in the stripes. I think he'll be trying hard just to get that first win out of the way.

Would be cool to see some of the young climbers like Aru, D. Quintana, and Chavez get a good result. But we'll see.

Cyclingfever lists Ulissi as starting as well, could be another one to watch if he's racing.

dayer isn't really a climber. he's completely different rider from nairo. he can climb well of course like any colombian. but it's not his style of riding

I see, I don't know a ton about him since as far as I know most of his racing has probably been in Colombia. What kind of rider is he?
