It's a shame Benoot and Verveake are not here. They have been destroying the U23 moutain races so far this year. I guess you gotta let competition win a little too.

Avenir should be great with Konrad, Verveake, Benoot, Herklotz, Svendsen and few others this year.

Konrad is not u23 anymore. And it will be Miguel Angel Lopez vs the rest anyway

Races classed as "ME NCup" are reserved for riders from 19 to 22, including riders belonging to a UCI ProTeam

I always thought WorldTour team riders were excluded from that rule, but from the words of the UCI regulation I cannot see that. On the other hand I cannot remember any WT rider riding a UCI U23 race...

He has always been a major talent but he has had a had a lot of bad luck. He was attacked by guys while he was on a training ride (somewhere at the end of 2012 or the start of 2013), which left him major injuries and at the nationals of Colombia 2013 he had a big crash which made him miss the 2nd half of the season.

Vervaeke turned pro with a WT team on 1st July so is not eligible anymore for U23 races.

And which mountainous race was destroyed by Benoot? Can't remember one... unless you mean the Ronde de l'Isard which had a pretty weak field this year. Benoot is not a mountain man, he's a solid climber, but more the punchy type, Gilbert-like.

Yes, I agree about Benoot. However he will still be a great help to Verveake, a solid domestique and you need these if you want to win. Big future for him on the punchy stuff indeed.

Yes for sure, Lopez often outclimbed Sebastian Henao when Lopez was a first year junior and Henao was a 2nd year junior. Lopez is often compared to Quintana.

I also rate Contreras very high, different kind of rider though not a real climber (although he can do very well on the climbs) but very talented.

Do you also have any info about Eduardo Estrada? The Colombian who is riding for the talent team of ag2r. I thought he mainly did track racing?

Ye it was, but they will send a team anyway . Think they did some talking that they are allowed now.

I thought that initially Colombia 4-72 should go to Avenir, and that couldn't for some reason.
Anyhow the national selection will start and they already pronounced a preselection:

His position at the head of the race looks assured ahead of the two stages in France this weekend. A strong race from the Norwegian team as well.
