I hope that Rebellin can close the gap today and win again this tour!

Senni got hurt by the up and down smaller climbs in the first of two French stages in the Valle d'Aosta (paradox there, of course, since by definition the Valle d'Aosta is not in France) and lost a minute, dropping his lead back to 4-72 Colombia's Bernardo Suaza; this lead is, however very tenuous and with the way Senni has been climbing this sets up a very interesting final stage, a mountain time trial to Morillon-Les Esserts. Suaza won the first uphill time trial of the race, to Valgrisenche, but Senni won both mountaintop finishes in the race, so both will be feeling confident.

Prueba Villafranca de Ordizia (1.1)

a medium mountain one-day race in Gipuzkoa, often a precursor to San Sebastián with a weaker startlist, this features the same run-in as the first stage of País Vasco this year, although the rest of the route's climbing is somewhat more consistent than we often see in Euskal Herria. Startlists for Spanish races continue to weaken with the difficulties facing Spanish cycling in terms of funding (and the difficulties for registering as a Continental squad, which perhaps need revamping from those in the times of plenty, following the Portuguese lead), and predictably Movistar were at the forefront of things. Ordizia is a pretty town and the race scenery is predictably pretty in this attractive corner of Europe, and the fans also got the joy of cheering a local boy to victory - Gorka Izagirre, who bested Luís León Sánchez in a sprint on the slightly uphill drag in the final half kilometre, was born less than 10km from the finish today, in Ormaiztegi. It is Gorka's second triumph at the race, having also won with Euskaltel in 2010, and was the least Movistar could do, having 3 in the final 4 at the front of the race... reminiscent of the 2012 Klasika Amorebieta, when Igor Antón found himself isolated against no fewer than four Movistar riders trying to stay clear of a chasing group with four Saur-Sojasun riders. Some of the stronger teams in the race were total non-factors, surprisingly - Cofidis and Androni Giocattoli did not do much, save for Hoogerland's presence in the chase group.

Paragraphs, Libertine, paragraphs. Alternatively, a bit more brevity which I know isn't your strong suit. :p

“Today it went perfect for us,” Weening said.

“Adam and I ended up in the first group. Adam attacked just before the last climb so the other guys had to chase it down and that was the perfect position.

“Then I was able to come from behind at full speed and surprise the other guys with only 3km to go and that’s how we won, it was teamwork.

Tour d'Alsace started today with a mostly flat stage, which saw a two man break go for the win:

1 TARRIDE GrégoireTeam La Pomme Marseille 3:33:31
2 POKIDOV MaximItera - Katusha 0:02
3 MALDONADO Anthony 0:34
4 VAN DER POEL MathieuBKCP - Powerplus,,

6 HOFSTETTER Hugo,,
7 HOEYBERGHS DaanBKCP - Powerplus,,
8 KOCH JonasLKT Team Brandenburg,,
9 DIETEREN JanTeam Stölting ,,
10 MCLAY Daniel

There are some pretty big U23 names in this race, like Herklotz, Svendsen, Eiking, (Fredrik) Ludvigsson, Van Der Poel and some others. There will be two more hilly stages, a stage finishing a few km after Grand Ballon and another flat stage. Could be a very good race.

I'm very curious to see whether Van Der Poel can still compete in mountain stages like he did in the juniors. He's getting some good results in flat races so far; though his ride in the Ardennes in the Tour of Belgium looked promising. I'm expecting him in the hilly stages, but the Grand Ballon is something else.

Some things will never change, JJ Rojas finished fourth in Circuito de Getxo. Uphill sprint, just nine teams, one WT, one PC(!) and rest were from 3rd division.

Clasificación:
1. Carlos Barbero (Euskadi) 4:00:28
2. Luca Chirico (MG Kvis) m.t.
3. Pello Bilbao (Caja Rural-RGA) a 2
4. José J. Rojas (Movistar Team) m.t.
5. Fabio Chinello (Area Zero) m.t.
6. Daniele Aldegheri (MG Kvis) m.t.
7. Giovanni Visconti (Movistar Team) m.t.
8. Matteo Busato (MG Kvis) m.t.
9. Beñat Intxausti (Movistar Team) m.t.
10. Stéphane Poulhies (Cofidis) m.t.
11. Gianluca Mengard (Area Zero) a 8
12. Esteban Plaza (Keith Mobel) m.t.
13. Fernando Grijalba (Caja Rural-RGA) m.t.
14. Ibai Salas (Burgos BH) m.t.
15. Manuel Sola (Keith Mobel) m.t.

The best thing is that in Vattenfall Classic in few weeks against all the WT teams he will probalby finish fourth either.
