Unless Vinokourov gives up his ambitions/retires/unable to return to form then Astana isn't the right team for Tour leadership either.

but he will/would be allowed do race on his own result also if he will be good enough. He could be in the form of a lifetime at Le Tour in RSH team next year and he wouldn't be even allowed to dream of doing something.

what IF Brajkovič goes to Saxo?:)

That would be funny :D but read my previous post. He is not stupid. :D
And if it was only for the money he wouldn't be in Radioshack for the last 2 seasons. Sky, Katusha and Rabobank offered him more than Radioshack in 2009.

The health plan at Radioshack was better.

Dauphine apart I really don't know what Jani's done to be a Tour leader. Toss him the Giro or Vuelta but he's not the next Tour winner.

Very bizarre day at work yesterday.

Had Mr Bruyneel himself in my workshop as I assembled a bike for a friend of his.

Was itching to ask him about this subject but thought better of it!

Good tippers though!

Interesting that Fuglschlang is going to be captain at the Giro. FS, Kloden, Hornet and Monfort are all better and none of them want a shot at gc?If Andy fails at the tour again he might target the Vuelta and if not his brother will. Even if the RS oldies are just interested in collecting retirement money, Monfort should be p....d off.

JB likes the many captains approach since Lance left so I would not be surprised if the same conversation was had with Monfort and being Captain at the Giro.

Still I hope he leaves and ends up at the new Lotto.

Fuglsang was primised Giro leadership before the merger, considering it starts in Denmark and all. Think they stick to that plan now to keep him happy and in the team.

Don't get me wrong I like Fuglsang a lot, he is a funny guy and a good rider ... but in terms of domestique at the Tour he is pretty useless. Monfort on the other hand did a superb job in the Tour this year. I think that may be part of the reasoning. Let Jakob be the captain at the Giro, it's what he wanted for years. Leave him out of the Tour team - it really won't matter since they'll have Klöden and Horner. Monfort to co-captain the Vuelta team with Klöden and focus on the one-week stage races.

First shot of next season's bike for Team RaNT? If so it looks like Martin Mortensen has got one and is safe until the next round (the picture is from his twitter). That would be nice because he is a cool guy and a good team mate (only one from LT to finish Roubaix besides Cancellara)!

But that's a CX bike, isn't it? :)

That is just the stock Trek XO2 CX bike. Horner has had a similar one the past couple of years to ride the CX circuit here in the US. It is kind of nice to see that a bike that us mortals can afford is apparently good enough for pro roadies to mess around on.

OK sorry just disregard my posts then lol. I have no idea of race bikes (only own a Specialized Sirrus) ... same thing happened last year when Robert Wagner posted a picture of his Trek Madone with the standart colours I thought it was the team colours

Happy he found a new job, I think he is a good guy and didn't deserve to be sidelined like that after all the work he did to set up the team

Andy would never let Monfort ride the Giro prior to the TDF after his herculean effort to carry him along the flat stretch leading up to the Galibier! That said, I'm sure the team will have more GC contender than just Fulgsang at the Giro - a squad that big should be pretty strong at all 3 GT's. Domestiques like Kloden, Horner and Monfort could try for the Vuelta after riding for the Schleck's at the Tour.

Andy Schleck: I have to win the Tour 2012!

What is your solution for the ITT?

I'm working on it, I already started. You know, before the start of the ITT in Grenoble, I really thought I could win it because I was almost one minute ahead. But Cadel was stronger, one has to admit it, it's as simple as that. I know that I lack in the ITT. I have to gain in power and strength and I have already started working on that. Without forgetting my positioning, which is not necessarily the best. That means working out and testing in the wind canal, I'm right in the middle of that. Yes, I must not and I cannot lose the Tour because of an ITT anymore.

Does that mean that Andy Schleck will win the Tour 2012?

That is indeed what I want to achieve. I must and I will win the Tour. It's good to be second thrice. But at one point, I have to stop goofing around. I have to stop missing what must happen to me because I can win this Tour de France. Especially next year, I'll have an even stronger team to make it.

So this team next year, is it a good thing or not?

It's even the best thing that could happen to this team. It was difficult to continue without a real sponsor, even though there was Trek and private money. There could have been a risk of the rider's salaries not being paid, even though we were all paid. This decision of the merger, we, the riders, heard about it like everyone else after the Tour, and more or less through the media. Honestly, we can only congratulate ourselves that sponsors are interested in us. At Team LEOPARD TREK we were 24 riders, with 4 riders being at the end of their contract. Johan Bruyneel arrives with 10 riders. In the end, we are 30 good riders.

The fact that it is Bruyneel, Armstrong's man with everything that entails, who is your manager - are you not afraid that ...?

Yes, I know what you want to say. One cannot stop the people from talking. Lance Armstrong won the Tour seven times and he would have done it with or without Johan Bruyneel. I know the slanderers and the critics but I already knew that when I was on Bjarne Riis' team. So what is going to change? Me, I know who I am and I know what I'm doing. I am not going to change my way to do things because of this manager or that directeur sportif. Next year, we will have without a doubt the strongest team in the peloton that can aim to get results at the Classics with Cancellara, Fuglsang and others and, with us, at the Grand Tours. So yes, we really won't have the right to fail, I'm telling you!

Next year, will we find Andy on the first spot of the podium before his brother Frank?

That would be ideal. But I think that Frank can just as well win the Tour as myself. This year, we started out with two leaders and in the end the team rode for me because I was placed better. Next year, we will also be the two leaders, Frank and I. But the competition will be fierce. Because I think that Cadel Evans can win a second Tour. Contador will be there because he won't make the mistake to do the Giro and the Tour. And one shouldn't forget riders such as Van den Broeck, Gesink or others. Next year, the peloton will be composed of big and strong teams such as GreenEDGE, Sky, BMC, Omega Pharma-Quick Step and others. So yes, we will have to fight. But my only objective really stays the Tour de France 2012 which I must and I will win. And the other races of the season will solely be there to reassure me. In any case we'll see each other at the presentation and discuss the profile!

Synthesis:

- is working on strength and positioning for ITT

- wants to "stop goofing around"

- says merger was the "best thing that could happen to (LEOPARD TREK)"

- says he is not going to "change (his) way to do things because of this manager or that directeur sportif"

- names Fuglsang among classics riders, not Grand Tour riders (possible Ardennes leadership?)

- announces double leadership strategy for Tour 2012

- says Tour will be the "only objective", other races "solely to reassure"

- does not forget to name Gesink as GC thread.
