Good grief. This is probably the only occasion when riders changing teams (you know the kind of thing that happens often and every year) is called sticking the knife in somebody.

Does that also include Cancellara, who was under contract?

He and many others should've been open to Bjarne. They should've just told him that they wanted to leave.

Some also left because of Contador, namely Voigt and Cancellara. Riis did what he had to do in order to save his team but at the same time he must have known this would cause others to leave

No, Bruyneel has always said that Frank was injured. That was never in question.

Folks a hematoma is the medical term for a bruise. He has a bruise on his neck and shoulder from the impact of the crash. I'm not sure if I buy the pain associated with adjusting his pedaling style on the bike, but at this point, it doesn't matter.

EDIT: The treatment for a hematoma is . . . a regiment of icing and heat (alternating) to freeze and then breakup the pooled blood. It can be an issue in contact sports, or in the case of swelling/bruising of a key joint (see, e.g., Contador 2011 TdF), but I don't think it should be a great impact on a rider's ability to control his bike. Of course the separated shoulder may have had an impact, but the fact he rode for more than 2 stages with the shoulder, I doubt it had a material impact on his ability to control the bike. Perhaps someone can weigh-in on how a bruised shoulder/neck affects your ability to pedal the bike (I can see in a case affecting the hip/lower extremities), not sure about the shoulder.

No sungard was always co-sponsor. Riis had another unnamed company as new main sponsor. However, Saxo stepped up with a better offer when they signed Contador

Tyler had some epic rides. As for Frank, only Frank knows his own body.

Comparing Frank to Floyd,( who must have ridden through incredible pain, but in my opinion, had knowledge that he might not be the same rider after his hip replacement, so therefore carried on his season, leading into, and riding the Tour,) and Tyler,(who knew he had incredible form, and has an incredible pain threshold, collarbone breaks are extremely painful,) is not relly a valid comparison.
Who knows, Frank knew he wasn't going to podium in the GIRO and therefore thought completing the race, and damaging his future, smart move by Frank in my opinion, even if the manager does not approve.
As for Bruyneel firing Frank of Andy, forget it, they are top drawer riders, and have a big following. Frank and Andy can ride for a lot of teams if they want. Blackballing for dropping out of a GT, or asked not to participate,Riis, not smart. The Schlecks are top GT riders, a rare breed.

Hey Frank, read up on one Robert Millar. 1991 Tour saw him having to ride in a neck brace, yet he still finished the race, albeit in 72nd place.

This was several days later, and he still is riding on.

Methinks the Schlecks are too mollycoddled so can't ride through any discomfort. It's too cold/wet/windy/hard so I'll climb off or complain.....

Evidently, riding with Jens hasn't had any effect on either of them.
