I know I've posted this before, but when Phil pronounces Maarten Tjallingi he ALWAYS says "jangle-y". Drives me nuts, but I still kinda like ol' Phil.

Yesterday he was saying how Movistar is a brand new team. The last time I checked, they were one of the oldest teams in the peleton, they just have a new sponsor.

Today, Liggett was talking about Contador having expended all his energy attacking (or something to that effect) right as Contador began to close in (and almost caught) on Evans, clearly showing he was not at all out of energy.

He's implied in the last couple of days that Vacansoleil-DCM are a French team and Johnny Hoogerland is Belgian!

In Ligget's defense, when Contador crossed the line, he looked pretty spent in my eyes, worse than Evans who lead out and won a sprint from a decent way out.

Yeah, Contador looked 100 times more tapped than he looked at any stage in the Giro. I thought he was out of it honestly. His final run surprised me, so no fault on Big Phil there.

I thought he got the sprint pretty good. That's still his strength. For many years he's been magic calling a sprint. But I think at some point he's going to have to look to retire. The Duffers could call a sprint very well too, but he knew when to step away to a lesser role, and for Phil that has to be soon.

Having said that, if we end up with Paul and Bob tRoll in the booth...

My complaint today with Phil and Paul today comes from listening to the IPad all access app while I drove to work this morning. Of course I didn't watch any of the video...just listened. From Phil's call, Alberto went, redlined or maybe said he was cooked, then all of a sudden he is in a photo finish with Cadel. To top it off, according to them at the end of the broadcast he gained no time. So I think Andy and all the other GC's were with him.

It wasn't until I read the forum that I found out Andy lost time. IMO Phil or Paul should have said that Andy lost time or that AC gained time on Andy...I know shame on me for expecting more from them. I learned I need video when they are calling the finish.

What I thought was funny. Phil explaining how David Millar wearing pink for two stages and winning the time trial in the Giro was good training for him. If he won the TT, he suffered over the hills and has huge kilometers in the legs... What hypocrites..

I should have planned ahead and listened to an audio feed if one was not geo restricted.

I still like him, they're a sort of comforting background sound like the funny old crazy uncle at family events who's been there since childhood.

But if this thread is about whinging, I'll add that I could do without hearing 'The God of Thunder', 'the yellow jersey gives you wings' or 'the sprinters are hungry' again.

Plus, it's as if every definitive comment about Contador having burnt his matches is reliably followed by yet another extraterrestial acceleration. Almost like it's code aimed at Rijs to tell AC to go.

Paul today: "When the weather is nice, the riders will push their tire pressure up to a 110 psi, which is extremely high. When the weather is bad, they will drop the pressure to 70 psi, which is still pretty high"

What?! Is he just randomly making up numbers now?

No one could ride on 70psi. You'd fall off at that pressure!

Phil and Paul (along with their pet bozo Bob Roll) are as rancid as last weeks garbage. The call of the finish was absolute trash. I watched it, and I heard Phil's call I know what I'm looking at, and what I heard-GARBAGE!. Sorry, I'm a cycling fan, not a fan of ANY commentator. Though I do think Todd Gogulski and Steve Schlanger, of Universal, make the best commentary team for the current US market.

The problem with Phil Liggett is that he's forgotten more about cycling than he knew about it in the first place.

Oh damn! That's a perfect Liggettism to describe Liggett. The more I think about it, the more certain I am that I've heard him say something to this effect...

One i have had enough of......its not new but i think Sherwen is using it more and more this Tour. He always has to add in:

'This afternoon'

Just making up a few quotes here to give you an idea:
'Phillipe Gilbert is going for the win this afternoon'
'Alberto Contador has lost himself over 30seconds already on the run in this afternoon'
'The stage this afternoon is tailor made for the men of the classics'

Use your best Paul Sherwen voice and you'll get the idea

Post photo-finish, Phil states...
" Yes Cadel Evans has won it, and that is officially his first win.
He's won a time trial when Vinokourov was disqualified late in the year for allegedly taking drugs. But that's the first stage win officially on the line for Cadel Evans. "

HAHAHA - 'this afternoon' (seriously) I was thinking of this exact same thing!

It was sinking in after watching the latter stages of stage 4 last night. Yeah, he never seems to say today.

"First coloured rider to ride the Tour"

I picked that up too, then I wondered if he said black. Poor choice anyway, but no offense intended.

I tell ya wot tho, if Sherwin says, "A good job of work" one more friggin time I will refuse to watch the TV and download the 8gb stage torrents instead.

However, I agree that Phil builds and builds lucky us, he always comes through and before you know it, "the peleton is doing a good job of chasing down the leaders who actually feel like the chasers, but are in fact the leaders who wish they were not there at all". P.L. 1991.

I watched the ITV4 highlights on their catch-up, specially to hear the Liggettisms. That one was a classic, I've never laughed so much. "You can clearly see that Contador's spent" (or words to that effect) and then he accelerates up the climb. Brilliant.
